As the title states, are you a gamer or just a sports gamer. Meaning do you play a variety of games or only just one or two sports games. I have seen a lot of men say I don't play video games, I just play Madden or MLB The Show.
Pretty sure it is a lot of people on OS who have a PS3 just for MLB The Show and just have a Xbox 360 just for Madden or FIFA or NBA 2K. Then you have those who only play Call of Duty or Battlefield series ONLY.
So what category do you fall in ? I must admit when I started gaming back in 1984 I only played Pole Position and other racing games. Then late 80s it was just sports games. During the 90s I got into RTS games on the PC like Civilization, Command & Conquer.
Didn't really expand my gaming experience until the PS2 era. Got into playing action games, RPGs, FPS, etc. Now I play some of any genre as long as it has a good story line. But more often then not though, sports games still is my favorite genre of gaming.
Mainly because of the replay value of it and because of my child hood. In my child hood, video games didn't come out every week or every month. They only came out late spring and during the christmas holidays ONLY. And I only got 2 games a year, one for my birthday and one for christmas, that was it.
Faced with that choice, I naturally chose a sports game because it could last me year round. I remember as a child getting Target Renegade because it was a cool looking action game. However I beat that game in couple of weeks. Then I was stuck for the next 7 months with nothing to play.
Learned from that mistake and just started asking for sports games. Sports games last forever. Now looking at the gaming industry, I must say kids got it made. 5 to 7 new games come out every week, YEAR ROUND. A lot more variety too.
When I was a kid, it was just sports and fighting games mainly. But on the flip side, I see kids are getting ripped off too. Games nowadays don't last nearly as long as they did back then. Back then on average a game had around 30 hours of game play to it. Now, you be lucky to get 6 or 7 hours worth of game play out of a game.

I used to be solely sports gaming and mainly football gaming. That changed when I went to the PS3 as the football games have disappointed me. So it forced me to look at non sports games like Uncharted and I've had a lot of fun with the 3rd person shooters and some racing games like ModNation. In some ways I owe EA a thank you for producing sub standard football games this gen otherwise I might have missed out on some good games.

I'd say 95% sports and the other 5% is for games like Batman, Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid. I can't play FPS games b/c the camera bothers me and I never got into RPGs ... always seemed too daunting.

I can't play FPS games either DJ. I play the Lego games with my kids, Uncharted games for me, Modnation and MUA for both and then occassionally hit on some other games I like (Bourne Conspiracy, James Bond Blood Stone). The bulk is still sports games although the football portion is down. Still playing baseball with a resurgence in basketball this year.

I am a gamer. Been gaming for 30 years. I love sports games but I also enjoy Call of Duty, Battlefield, the Splinter Cell series (best storylines), Metal Gear series, and the Uncharted series.
Games that I liked because of uniqueness were Red Dead Redemption, Heavy Rain and LA Noire.

I'm 18 and I play those FPS (Battlefield, Cod) and RPG (Deus Ex, Skyrim) but I TRULY love sports gaming. Especially college football. Most of the time I'd rather play a quick match in 2k12, than go on and play a round or 2 in BF3.

100% sports games!
These are games I get every year and that I have bought every edition ever made.
Madden
NBA 2k
UFC
MLB The Show
These are games I get every 2-3 years but always have in the library.
Fifa
NCAA Football
Tiger Woods
Games I used to get and wish I still could...
NCAA 2k
March Madness
I dont care which one but I'd prefer the 2k!
I think its just the competitive person in me that loves to compete in sports games seeing that Im to old now to play competitively anymore. Ive tried the Call of Duty's, Batman, and other games but they don't stay in my systems very long. I love the strategies and the chess game within the game with sports games like NBA2k, madden, and UFC!

95% sports all sports
5%- BF and COD.
Battlefield 1943 BAttlefiedl BAd Company 2. BAttlefield 3,
and COD MW3-which I dont play that much.
The war games is where I get my online gaming fix. I find online shooters more enjoyable than sports games online.
I always get
NBA 2k
and I always get MLB 2k and the Show
still play ch2k8
football still play 2k5
Madden I bought new this year but was disappointed
NCAA football was decent. I tend to buy EA football games used.
this was the first year I bought them new.
Hockey I usually get the previous years version. so I have NHL11
I still play NHL2k10
I have the TOp SPin
FIFA 12-I buy a soccer game every 2-3 years
Tiger Woods-every few years, Hot SHots GOlf.
I absolutely enjoy every sports game that 2k has offered. if it wasnt for 2k sports I would have given up gaming on consoles along time ago. and since I have a PS3 Ill by EA products for the sports games that 2k does not make.

I split my time between sports (NCAA football & NBA 2k) and shooters/adventure games (COD, Batman AA, etc).
Used to play more football than bball, but that's reversed now as the football games have gotten so stale, IMO.

I'm older than most guys here (mid 40's) and just discovered gaming when my son started getting into it a few years ago. I only play sports games and the occasional driving / racing game. Not only do I prefer sports games but I can play them with my son and I don't worry about negative influences. I'm very conscious of what my son is exposed to. Games of choice are NBA2K, FIFA and NCAA Football but I also occasionally play Madden, NCAA Basketball 10, College Hoops 2K8, Top Spin 4 and NHL2K10.

I acknowledge there are a lot of other cool games (like CoD or Red Dead Redemption). But I'm so busy between work and spending time with the lady that I don't get as much game time as years past.
So I'm reduced to just sports games.

NBA 2K and COD are basically the only I play mainly because I don't have much time to play games like I used because of work. But I'm thinking about picking up the new UFC tomorrow. Had the last version and hated the control system but recently played it at Best Buy and loved the new controls. Oh and thinking about picking up my first ever copy of MLB THE SHOW next month. Keep hearing rave reviews about but I have never played it sad to say and don't kno if I would enjoy it since I'm not a big fan of the sport.
