As the title states, are you a gamer or just a sports gamer. Meaning do you play a variety of games or only just one or two sports games. I have seen a lot of men say I don't play video games, I just play Madden or MLB The Show.
Pretty sure it is a lot of people on OS who have a PS3 just for MLB The Show and just have a Xbox 360 just for Madden or FIFA or NBA 2K. Then you have those who only play Call of Duty or Battlefield series ONLY.
So what category do you fall in ? I must admit when I started gaming back in 1984 I only played Pole Position and other racing games. Then late 80s it was just sports games. During the 90s I got into RTS games on the PC like Civilization, Command & Conquer.
Didn't really expand my gaming experience until the PS2 era. Got into playing action games, RPGs, FPS, etc. Now I play some of any genre as long as it has a good story line. But more often then not though, sports games still is my favorite genre of gaming.
Mainly because of the replay value of it and because of my child hood. In my child hood, video games didn't come out every week or every month. They only came out late spring and during the christmas holidays ONLY. And I only got 2 games a year, one for my birthday and one for christmas, that was it.
Faced with that choice, I naturally chose a sports game because it could last me year round. I remember as a child getting Target Renegade because it was a cool looking action game. However I beat that game in couple of weeks. Then I was stuck for the next 7 months with nothing to play.
Learned from that mistake and just started asking for sports games. Sports games last forever. Now looking at the gaming industry, I must say kids got it made. 5 to 7 new games come out every week, YEAR ROUND. A lot more variety too.
When I was a kid, it was just sports and fighting games mainly. But on the flip side, I see kids are getting ripped off too. Games nowadays don't last nearly as long as they did back then. Back then on average a game had around 30 hours of game play to it. Now, you be lucky to get 6 or 7 hours worth of game play out of a game.

I am also about 90% sports. I got into Batman a few months back, and it is GREAT not worrying about sliders, or settings or worrying about 100% realism. I actually play the game. Thinking about getting more into the non sports realm. The beauty of that, is there a a bunch of older games out there that are pretty cheap now....I am eyeing Assisin's Creed.

I have been reduced to almost exclusively sports games but sports games have always dominated my video game time. I used to rent a lot of games and give them a play through. I got sucked into COD and Battlefield b/c of my cousin a little while back, but I don't enjoy it very much anymore even though I was decent at it. It bores me within 20 to 40 minutes of playing it and then I don't play it for a few weeks. Currently, I have not played COD in over a month. I wish I had not wasted the money on it. I guess I figured it would be a good way to talk to my cousin more.
With that little rant out of the way...the only other non-sports games that I play still when they come out are: GTA and Uncharted. I do not play them online though. I have played each Uncharted story 3 times through. So I will probably buy Last of Us if it is too long to beat while renting. But I am definitely waiting for reviews. The game looks promising.
NHL and MLB: The Show I buy every year, and NBA 2K and Madden , NCAA , Tiger Woods, and FIFA I buy every 2 to 3 years. I wish there was a current College Basketball game on the market. My fiancee and being in Veterinary school limit my video game time now. Video games can be a great study break.
