Simulating forward leave us after the all star break and right up against the trade deadline. Earlier in the season I was contemplating one more move after acquiring Joakim Noah earlier in the season for Dion Waiters and Tyler Zeller. But to coach Dreece's surprise the team has gelled very fast and players are very comfortable in their roles and just seem excited to play for the freshman coach. Looking forward Cleveland for the first time all season have a healthy squad 1-12 so coach Dreece will have all his tools at his disposal will he be able to keep the team on it's current path???

Divisional Outlook

Last year at this point of the season the Cavs were 7.5 games behind the division leading Chicago Bulls but this season the roles have reversed and the people of Cleveland couldn't be more happier.

Eastern conference playoff chase

In spite of Cleveland's slow start they have recovered nicely and are headed for a collision course with the Miami Heat if the team can stay healthy in the second half of the season. If the Cavs can finish out 18-12 in the last 30 that would be an eight game improvement over last season but I think the boys from Cleveland have higher goals set for the finish and I can't wait to see how it turns out!

Rookie of the Year??

Justin "JoJo" Washington has been nothing short of spectacular in his rookie season in the NBA. His size has been a major asset in the offense and he's working hard to catch his defensive ability up to the level of his defense he's shown flashes blocking shots and playing the passing lanes effectively but a little more consistency wouldn't hurt. He's been excellent from the ft line and effective from deep and have a few highlight dunks to add to his already impressive resume but lone question remains....will JoJo dominate the rookie of the year race or will he relinquish his grip on the race..we will find out shortly.

Refined Focus

Controlling your division is one thing but being part of the elite is what every owner is trying to accomplish when he/she write those massive checks out to his players and coaches and these teams up to this date is what the definition of ELITE is.

Here we are sitting in the top 10 in the power ranking late in the season and seem to be headed for home court in at least the first round.I can't speak enough about the character of this team and it's gonna be tested immediately because the next game up on the schedule is a trip to the bayou to visit the #3 Hornets see you there!

This is a matchup of streaking teams (Cleveland 4 in a row)(Boston 3 in a a row)that's trying to gain further momentum going into the next calendar year. The Cavs are currently seeded 7th in the East and Boston 11th

Coming into tonight's game Cleveland has a chance to win 5 straight and also get me the streaking achievement all in the same motion. Rondo is always a major pain for me because his defensive awareness is off the charts and he creates easy baskets for all of his players. Hopefully the defense we are implementing for tonight's game slows him down enough for us to get a key eastern conference win

Tonight's game proved that the Cavs are definitely a force out east and the teams chemistry is thru the roof! Crisp rotations, consistent shooting, and great coaching have been the cornerstone to the Cavaliers success so far this season.

The "Manimal" Kenny Faried had a strong outing posting 21 pts and 12 rebounds to go along with Rondo's 19 pts and an impressive 17 dimes! Boston got down early and had to uses most of their energy trying to get out of a hole that was big as 22 pts in the 1st half.

Kyrie Irving didn't have a great game from the floor but he hit 4-6 from deep and that helped spark an an assault that Boston was not ready for. Old soldier Stephen Jackson came into the game and showed that he just might still have a little left in his tank to help out this up and coming team. Honestly these type of outings from Jackson and the bench will make the Cavs super dangerous come playoff time.

Top Performers

Coach Dreece is at the podium lets get to a few questions.

Reporter: Coach Dreece how do you continue to get your guys to play so intense it's like night and day from the beginning of the season.

Dreece: It's a simple concept but it's hard to master. As a defense we are going to force you to do what we want you to do. Rondo likes to penetrate and dish so we just made sure we had multiple defenders around him when he drove and we neutralized his favorite target Paul Pierce by denying him the ball the entire game.

R: Rondo had 19 and 17 how do you call that slowing him up?

D: Game planning for a player like Rondo is tough because he can affect the game in so many ways so we made the choice to make him a passer and made sure we closed out on shooters. We had success for the most part and it helped us get out to a big lead.

R: Can we expect to see more of these strategies implemented in future game plans?

D: Yea you will but everyday we add new wrinkles to our offense and our defense so we don't have that same look out there. These coaches are smart and they make great adjustments it's my job to get my guys prepared to encounter everything out there on the court and I feel we did a solid job tonight.

R: So coach how far do you think this team can go this season?

D: The skies the limit for us. We are getting a few guys back from injury soon and that's only going to help us. We are learning how to play together on offense and that's scary for our opposition but we are still learning and hope to gain ground in the division. After that we can worry about playoffs

R: Thanks Coach what's next for the team?

D: We are taking this recent success in stride and hopefully we can keep this rolling. We are going to simulate up to All-Star Weekend and resume playing right before the trade deadline.

R: Do you plan on making any more moves this season coach?

D: I'm not sure I like my group of guys but if a trade presents itself that will improve this franchise I will definitely consider it.

R: That's all the time we have thanks coach.

D: Sure thing see you in Houston

When we last left off Coach Dreece had very interesting interview with an arrogant New York blogger whose main purpose seemed to be to get under the rookie coach's skin. Unfazed by the nonsense coach immediately got into game films upon boarding the team plane and what he seen was a desperate team and city trying to hold on to success of the past.

The Knicks are currently 5-18 so far this season that's good enough for last place in the NBA. They are 1-9 in last ten home games and a league worst -8.2 point differential. All this futility is making me queezy lol it's no wonder Carmelo Anthony left in free agency to go to the Wizards.

The Cavs come into tonight's game riding a 3 game winning streak but having to play a team that has had 3 days rest and you're coming off a game the prior night it seem like a trap to me. But with this new cast of characters and the sorry competition it might turn into a laugher early.

Lets get down to the sideline for tonight's action!

As the ol' saying goes if you can't score you you can't win. Coach Dreece and the Cleveland Cavaliers took that mindset into the game and executed their defensive gameplan to perfection. The Knicks shot an abysmal 36% from the floor and an even more gut wrenching 14% from beyond. The Knicks usually stingy defense had a rough time dealing with the speed and play making ability from Cleveland's back court. They tried to go with physical play on the wings early but all that did was create angles for easy dimes all over the court.

Kyrie Irving had a dominant outing against rookie lottery pick Jeremiah Williams(DC1) in what was thought to maybe be a tough match up for Irving because of Williams size, quickness, and defensive pedigree but early in the game this happened....

The crowd erupted into a frenzy!! The look on the rookies face was one of fear and Kyrie knew it. Williams had that type of reputation that said something like this would never happen.. but it happened three times during this game Irving by TKO!

Reporter: Coach that was a dominating effort against a pretty good defensive lineup. Describe how you designed a gameplan in such short time to get your team ready to play a team like New York.

Dreece: Well it's kinda simple. We went into this game feeling like we were the better team and we executed as such...listen I'm not gonna come up here and blow smoke up ya @$$es like most coaches do ima give it to you straight. I feel we have a top 5 defense right now and we are going to pressure you to do what we want you to do.

R: Can you elaborate a little please?

D: Sure. I have a great scouting team and they pointed out that New York like to anticipate plays, they like to try to beat you to the spot sorta speak. They like to take charges, they reach a lot for steals, and they like to block shots from weak side.

R: Meaning??

D: Is this guy serious lol?? Anyway to combat this we turned our pressure up on defense early. We trapped their pick and roll early and that forced some bad passes and helped us to get out in transition and get some easy baskets. Later on we changed that up and started to go under the screen to force contested jumpers and as you can see it worked like a charm.

R: That's great coach but it's going to take a lot more than simple defense concepts like that to beat the elite of the eastern conference.

D: Simple concepts!! This Ferrari I'm driving don't have no Ford engine my man!! Lets look at the stats....simple concepts hmmph! The Knicks starting wing players (Williams, Shumpert, and Brewer) went a combined 6-36 from the floor and almost all of those looks were contested.I give the players all the credit in the world for sticking with the gameplan.

R: Your team shoots the ball well from all over the floor that seemed to frustrate the Knicks early and often. How are you able to get your players the looks that the Knicks could not?

D: Well that credit goes out to the scout team and the assistant coaches. Footwork drills, conditioning, patience all play a big part in our offense. Bottom line we have some real talent in Cleveland and Kyrie is the conducter we go as he goes and he was on point tonight.

R: Thanks for taking time to talk with us coach.

D: Sure thing.

Next up for the Cavs is a trip to TD Bank Center to take on the Boston Celtics see you there!

Coming into this match up San Antonio looks to to team leader Tony Parker to get his team out of their current slump(3-7 last 10 gms) it's not gonna be an easy task because the suddenly resurgent Cleveland Cavs come to town with a new level of intensity. Look for Parker to try to control the flow of the game by protecting the ball since the Spurs defense is ranked at the bottom of the league in most categories. Let's check tonight's lineup and get down to the sideline for the tip.

The battle of star point guards didn't disappoint

This was a game that Cleveland clearly dominated defensively. Tony Parker and Danny Green did all they could to keep this game close but from the tip it just seemed lik the Cavs night.

Kyrie Irving led his troops into battle and almost had a triple double despite 5 turnovers and chipping in with two blocks.

Joakim Noah and Kendall Latimer clogged the lane and forced the Spurs to take heavily contested shots all night long. The energy shown by the Cavs since the arrival of Noah and the newly acquired Stephen Jackson is putting teams on notice. When Tristan Thompson returns from injury watch out eastern conference!

But on a night when the leading rookie ROTY candidate Justin "JoJo" Washington went off for 38pts 6rebs and 5ast he may have been up staged by the flash and sheer skill of super 6th man Kareem Packett.

"21 points in 22 mins on 10-17 shooting...WOW" quoted Parker after the game. "All the scouting reports say Kyrie's the star so you focus most of your schemes to slow him down and he finds guys open and they make you pay." "It was never a moments rest out there once Kyrie took a rest this kid Packett comes in a gives our defense fits...tough game against a hungry team my congrats goes out to them for their play tonight."

Reporter: Coach Dreece can I get a word?!

Dreece: Yea what's up?

R: Tonight's game your team seems to be really buying into your philosophies can you give us some insight on that?

D: Well let's not get to ahead of ourselves it's only been two games since I arrived and we have a long way to go this season next step is to get back to .500. But to be honest when you look into a mans eyes you can tell if he's with the cause or if he's in it for himself. I'm surrounding myself and this franchise with team players..bottom line.

D: I preach defense a playing ball like the 90's man..tough, rugged, raw every shot gets contested and we get out in transition. I believe with our current roster we can accomplish alot this season if we buckle down and play tough MAN TO MAN defense.

R: With all this talk about defense you would think you had the 92 Knicks out there. You have name like JoJo, Shabazz, Irving, Packett they aren't exactly defensive masterminds you know.

D: Actually I was thinking more in the lines of the Bad Boys with Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, and Vinnie the microwave. That's the kind of aura I want around this team!! NOBODY will out work or intimidate us, we will force our will on you for 48 full minutes and hopefully our work will show up in the win cloumn.

R: OK coach I don't wanna hold you up to much longer I just wanna ask you a question that's been blowing up the sports blogs lately?

D: Ok this should be interesting...

R: There has been rumors flying around the Kareem Packett is secretly unhappy with his sixth man role and he believes that he is the best guard on the roster and he has requested a trade to a bigger market mainly New York.

D: (Laughs hysterically) Unhappy..lol let me tell you something..whats your name??

R: Jack...Jack Bleacher.

D: Let me tell you something JACK! Kareem was one of the first players to reach out to me when I was named coach and he assured me that he was on board with everything I pitched to the team about the direction of the franchise. I'm pretty sure your sources made a mistake on that one..JACK!

R: Your brash Philadelphia attitude is gonna rub some players the wrong way coach. None off today's stars would play for you.

D: And that Bronx accent you been trying to hide aint fooling nobody either! I know what your doing...your trying to take the shine the players have been receiving because your Knicks are coming to town in a few days. Well let me tell you something JACK I'm gonna make sure the boys and Mr so called unhappy Kareem Packett show your guys a good time in Cleveland.

D: If that's the kind of hate we're getting already then I'm doing my job!!

The Raptors enters tonight's contest 4th in the eastern conference and their frontline of Bargnani and Valanciunas is a definite advantage over the smaller defenders that the Cavaliers will throw at them simply because they are official 7 footers with two very different type of game. Throw in dynamic wingman Demarr DeRozan and wily veteran Jose Calderon to the mix and you have a very dangerous team that looks to make noise all season long.

The Cavs come into the game with something to prove in their first conference game since the new regime took over. Stingy defense is what the Cavaliers is all about and the defense makes it easy for talented wing players (Irving, Washington, Muhammad, and Packett) to get out in the open court and get plenty of baskets. Look for Cleveland to try to force Toronto into a track meet so they won't get wore down by the sheer power of Toronto's frontline.

Cleveland stomped out to and early double digit lead by Justin Washingting who had 17 1st half points. The longe range game was working and Calderon was having trouble keeping Kyrie in front of him it looked like a laugher was in the making until Cleveland got sloppy with the ball and let the Raptors right back into the game. Turnovers killed Cleveland early as Toronto made their comeback in the first half. Tale of two quarters: 32-18 Cleveland 1st qt advantage, 30-17 Toronto 2nd qt advantage.

Toronto came out firing in the 3rd quarter lead by the steady play of Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani. Toronto's size initially gave the young Cavaliers fits(Valanciunas had a monster facial jam on Noah) they blocked shots and made it very difficult for Cleveland to get off clean looks.

The fourth quarter started off with a Cleveland turnover, Raptors layup, Cleveland turnover, two Raptor ft's. The lead ballooned to 7 points just like that and it started to look bleak for the Cavs until Cleveland's top pick from a year ago decided that he was going to make this showcase. Kareem "K-Pack" Packett buried a three and finished a strong drive with an and 1 to help Cleveland stay afloat in the game. When Kyrie returned with a little over 9 minutes left in the 4th his focus now shifted to attack mode, he knows Calderon doesn't stand a chance without help so patience and ball security needs to stay at the front of his head. Valanciunas ankle injury late in the fourth put a halt in any of the Raptor's plans on making a rally. He only went to the sideline to get taped up but the team just wasn't the same without him for those couple minutes and they never reverted back to the aggresive power team they showed in the 1st 3 quarters of play.

"We want tacos!!!! rang throughout the stadium as the game came closer to ending. The game was a close as 3 with 41 seconds left when Kyrie Irving broke out a Tim Hardaway-esque crossover on Calderon to seal the game!! Final 105-99 Cavs!! Tacos for everybody

Justin Washington Player of the game 29pts 5reb 2ast

Coming into today's game Cleveland must assert themselves on the defensive end of the floor if they want to walk away with a win in this conference matchup. On paper the Cavs have to feel confident about their chance in this game simply because the Nets have also been struggling as of late going 1-3 last week but it's still basketball and nothing is a given.

As gametime approaches the usual faces could be seen along the sidelines

She definitely not into him because of his looks folks lol. But on a serious note the Cavs are ready to play lets get down o the sideline for action.

This was the type of game Cleveland Cavaliers fans have been looking forward to seeing all year. Free flowing offense triggered by a smothering defense spear headed by recent pickup Joakim Noah. The Cavs look like a brand new team out there. Starting PF Tristan Thompson had a monster game (23pts 10reb 2st 10-12fg) and Kendall Latimer chipped in with 16pts and 8reb in only 18mins of play. Final score 102-98 Cleveland takes the win.

That's obvious dejection on their faces after that stunning loss. We caught up with Noah after the game let's see how he feels about tonight game

Noah: I had a ball out there tonight, the music was rocking and the crowd...how I love the crowd!! Their dislike for me only put fuel on the fire I had burning inside me for the last few weeks. Sitting on the bench recovering from injury is tough and when management seems to be looking for players to replace you it just sits with you the wrong way. I'm still a good player in this league and I'm out to prove that on a nightly basis.

Reporter 1: You had a solid effort tonight (6pts 10reb 2blk 33mins) I can't wait to see what you can do when you have some practice time with the team.

Noah: I'm proud of my new team they played hard and most of all we played together thats all you can ask for right now.

Cleveland made a swift but risky decision when the announce that they found the franchises new head coach a mere 3 hours after they fired Scott. The teams president announced " The new coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers is....Coach Dreece!!" BBBBOOOOOOOOO!!!! rang out from the small crowd of fans in attendance. Coach Dreece approached the podium with supreme confidence and made the following comment on the state of the franchise. "I'm here for one reason and one reason only and that is to take the Cleveland Cavaliers to the finals within 3 years. It's too much talent on this team for them to be performing this way and some immediate changes are in the works.

It's no secret that Coach Dreece runs an intense defensive system and an up-tempo offense that the team is gonna have to adjust to immediately. His coaching experience is limited but he has a bright mind an this franchise needs a fresh face to help get this team headed in the right direction.

We have Coach Dreece on conference call let's get to that now..

CD: Hello Cleveland!!! I don't have much time to talk because I got to get to the hotel to meet the team, I have looked over the teams roster and I have to make some changes to get this team to the playoffs. That's right I said it PLAYOFF'S I have supreme confidence in my General Manager skills and my coaching ability so with a few roster tweaks I feel we can at worst be an 8th seed this year.

Reporter: What roster tweaks did you have in mind coach?

CD: My first order of business is to solidify my defense. During my short time watching film on the team I witnessed flashes of greatness I mean they rotated on defense, boxed out for rebounds, and applied good ball pressure. But lately it seems the team lost that focus on defense and instead looked for the offense to lead the team. I have been on the phone with various GM's since I got word that I was gonna be the next coach in Cleveland and I have great news for the fans of our franchise!! I worked out a deal with the Chicago Bulls for disgruntled center Joakim Noah

CD: I'm sorry to see to see Tyler Zeller and Dion Waiters go but I feel the team needed a defensive anchor and Joakim's energy and hustle is contagious so I expect the rest of the squad to follow suit. That's all I have for now Joakim is gonna meet up with the team in Brooklyn he says he fired up to play since he's Chicago has been off for 2 days and I have confidence that he will be just fine.
Posted on March 11, 2013 at 03:36 AM.
The Cavs immediately started showing the effects of that drubbing by Miami. The hosted OKC 2 days later and got smoked by 30!! KD had 33pts and 12rb and Westbrook chipped in a measly 31pts and 8 dimes in a game where OKC jumped out to a early 31-19 lead after 1. It just don't seem like it's much fight in the team right now and thats not a good sign for a young team.

We pick up after a stretch of games and now we sit a 8-12 and after another lackluster defensive effort @ home vs Golden State management had enough and Byronn Scott was fired.

The fact that coach Scott had a bonified star in Kyrie Irving and up and comers Shabazz Muhammad, Justin Washington, and Tyler Zeller I thought we would've competed harder on both end of the floor and that didn't happen so a change had to be made. Now the hunt for a coach begins will they look @ Phil Jackson, Larry Brown, maybe even pull Jerry Sloan out of retirement.. we will see soon the team is due out Brooklyn tomorrow night for a matinee matchup with the Nets.

Coming into the the game the Cavs had some confidence that the could make some noise in the eastern conference and the first test and a mighty test it is! Miami comes comes to town sporting a 2-0 record and a little player by the name of Lebron James. What started out as a hotly contested battle at the end of one the score was 29 up then this happened...

As you might have guessed it King James decided that he was the best player on the court and he was going to show why. What was not shown was the total team dominance of the Heat. Miami's big 3 of James, Wade, and Bosh combined for 81 out of the teams 118 total points on 36-54 fg!! One bright spot for the Cavs was Shabazz Muhammad had a pretty solid games vs James and co. (22pts 7br 2blk 4-4pt). This was an utter destruction by one of the better teams in the league, will the early loss hurt the teams confidence or will they shrug it off as one loss in a 82 game schedule?

The Cavs speed and athleticism was the difference in this defensive dynamo. Detroit big man trio of Drummond, Monroe, and Martin(DC1) only could contribute 36 pts between them while Cleveland's starting Back court of Irving, and Washington (DC1) put up 46 pts combined!!

Hard fought game that the Cavs lead from the tip. If the defense can hold tough this will be an exciting season for the young Cavaliers

Player of the Game Justin "JoJo" Washington

Next Game up 2-0 Miami coming to town..

Both teams looked like it was the 1st game of the season. But one thing is for sure the young athletic legs of the Cleveland Cavaliers put plenty of pressure on the ball and contested every shot that the Lakers attempted. Kobe was quoted "They ran us out the gym in the 2nd half man, 34% fg not gonna cut it against any team in this league and definitely not against a team with this talent."

The 2014-2015 Cleveland Cavaliers are a very young(23.85 years old avg) and explosive team in the open court. Star PG Kyrie Irving vowed to take this young but humble team farther than last year effort(4 game sweep by Brooklyn). With all that firepower who can blame his confidence

.

Big men gonna need to to finish around the rim and stay healthy, and the young wing players must be consistent if this team has any chance at a playoff run. The Cavs will look to trade one of their young assets for a veteran big at/or before the trade deadline.
