Romero Looks Good In Debut, Jays Fall To Rangers
Jays Defense Falters In Romero's Return To Bigs
TORONTO -- Ricky Romero (0-1) seems to just not be able to get a win. After losing his spot in the rotation to recently dealt left hander J.A. Happ, Romero returned to the Big Leagues trying to regain his former self.
It all went well until a Brett Lawrie in the top of the fourth inning that extended the inning for the Texas Rangers. Just three pitches later, Romero found himself watching Ian Kinsler reach second base safely on a double to the left-center field gap. After regaining his focus, Romero went on to strikeout the next batter to finish the inning.
All of the Blue Jays’ (14-11) offense came courtesy of the home run as Melky Cabrera hit line drive over the right field wall. Another blow came off the bat of Edwin Encarnacion just one batter later as he took Rangers starter Alexi Ogando deep into the seat in left field to cut the deficit in half and make it a two run game. Jose Bautista hit his team leading seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning off of veteran pitcher Derek Lowe to make it a one run game.
Everything stayed the same until all of the Blue Jays’ hopes were crushed when Elvis Andrus singled to left field to plate another run to expand the Rangers’ lead to two.
“I’d say that RickyRo [Romero] pitched a pretty solid game for us today. A couple of defensive blunders with the Brett’s [Lawrie] error and the passed ball from Thole really cost us a couple of runs today. Without those two mistakes, I’d say we won that game” said Blue Jays manager John Gibbons.
The Blue Jays bullpen pitched yet another solid game with the only mistake being the Andrus single in the 9th inning. “I feel that with all the great things that the ‘pen has done for us this season, they deserve to give up a few runs every now and then. Andrus got a good hit and there's nothing you can do about it, it's the game of baseball.” said Gibbons.
The Blue Jays begin a ten game road trip with the first game tomorrow night with Blue Jays ace R.A. Dickey (0-2, 5.16) going up against Angels ace Jered Weaver (2-1, 4.78).

MLB Comes Down Hard On Loup, Hands Out Lengthy Suspension____________________
TORONTO -- Major League Baseball has decided to come down hard on Blue Jays lefty reliever Aaron Loup. The MLB has announced that they have decided to hand out a suspension to the Blue Jays reliever after he was ejected from yesterday night's game between the Rangers and Blue Jays.
Loup, in his rookie season, was ejected after hitting Leonys Martin near the head area, Nelson Cruz in the leg and catcher A.J. Pierzynski in the back. After Cruz was hit, home plate umpire Jerry West issued a warning to Loup and both benches.
Is is suspected that Loup was angered by the fact that the Rangers would not stop pounding the Jays and that they kept on adding runs. After finding out about the suspension, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons showed no sympathy to the Rangers and had the following to say when asked about his take on the situation:
"Well, to be honest, I think that they deserved it or [at least] Martin and Cruz did. When your team is winning by more than ten [explicit]ing runs, you don't go out there and be an [explicit] by stealing two more bases. Same thing to Cruz, you don't show any [explicit]ing sportsmanship by going out there and hitting a home run and smiling at Aaron when you get back to the plate. That's just asking to be hit. You can go around hitting my players and I won't say a thing. It's because thats the way the game works. You do some crazy, disrespectful [explicit] and you will get hit. You can hit me back if you want, but you better not be whining.
Loup is suspended for a whopping total of 14 games. Gibbons was also fined an undisclosed amount for his comments about the situation. The Blue Jays have announced that they have called up right handed reliever Mickey Storey from Triple-A Buffalo. Storey will take Loup's spot in the bullpen, leaving only veteran Darren Oliver as the lone lefty in the bullpen. The Blue Jays play the rubber match of their three game set against the Rangers tonight. Look for it to be a heated game, with first pitch at 7:07 pm ET.

Jays Make Flurry Of Moves Following Trade
By Tim Dierkes [May 1, 2013 at 12:03 am ET]
The Toronto Blue Jays aren't done their roster shuffling just yet. After completing a seven player, three team trade with the Pirates and Rangers, the Blue Jays have deisgnated catcher Mike Nickeas and utility man Mark DeRosa for assignment. DeRosa hit .043 for the big league club this season before getting demoted to Triple-A. The Blue Jays have also released shortstop Amadeo Zazueta, outfielder Ricardo Nanita and left fielder Ryan Langerhans. The Blue Jays claimed reliever Buddy Baumann off waivers from the Kansas City Royals. The Blue Jays also signed outfielder Evan Chambers to a contract. Chambers played in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization last season.

Breaking Down The Pirates, Jays and Rangers Trade
By Tim Dierkes [May 1, 2013 at 9:47am ET]
The Blue Jays, Rangers and Pirates completed a seven player deal this morning. Obviously all three teams think that this deal can benefit them either in the short term view or the long run. Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors take a look at the deal and breaks it down for us.
Toronto Blue Jays
The Jays obviously got the most players in the deal by acquiring lefty pitcher Justin Wilson from the Pirates and adding right handed pitcher Justin Miller and utility player Jeff Baker from the Texas Rangers. Miller, 26 years old, pitched spectacularly last season for Double-A Frisco in the Rangers organization. The tall right hander went 9-1 with a 1.81 ERA and a WHIP of 1.00 in just over 69 innings pitched. Wilson, also 26, pitched for Triple-A Indianapolis in the Pirates organization last season. The southpaw from California posted a 3.78 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 135.2 innings pitched last season. He is projected to be a third spot in the rotation guy that can eat a lot of innings for the Blue Jays. Jeff Baker is the guy that they Jays went after when the contacted the Rangers about this deal reports Ken Rothensal of ESPN. He is expected to provide some stability to a weak bench after Mark DeRosa failed to perform and was ultimately demoted to Triple-A Buffalo.
Texas Rangers
The Rangers got lefty reliever Luis Perez from the Blue Jays as well as shortstop prospect Jordy Mercer from the Pirates. Perez, 28, made his major league debut for the Blue Jays last season and went 3-3 with an ERA just over five at 5.12 with a WHIP of 1.55. He mainly came out of the bullpen as the long man but made a few spot starts for the Jays. The lefty has shown lots of potential and I wouldn't be surprised if he finds a spot in the Rangers bullpen before the end of the season. Mercer, 26, was moving up through the ranks of the Pirates minor league system fairly quickly splitting last year with Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis. The right handed hitting shortstop hit .239 in 226 plate appearances last season in Triple-A. He also had an on-base percentage of .329 in Double-A which decreased to .304 when he made the move to Triple-A. The Rangers are getting two players with relatively good potential while giving up less.
Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates are undoubtedly getting the best player in this deal in starter J.A. Happ. The left hander was a big part of the deal that brought starter Roy Oswalt to Philadelphia. The tall lefty was also part of the ten player deal last summer to bring him to Toronto. Happ, 30, was serving as the fifth starter in a stacked Toronto rotation and went 1-2 in four starts with an ERA of 4.40. The numbers aren't exactly great but maybe playing in the National League once again will improve his performance.

Notes:
- Blue Jays pitcher Brandon Morrow was named the Player of the Game after pitching 7.1 innings and allowing one run on six hits.
- The Seattle Mariners win the series two games to one.
- The Blue Jays continue their homestand and will play the Texas Rangers at home at the Rogers Center.
- Blue Jays centerfielder Colby Rasmus sat out the game against the Mariners because left-handed pitcher Joe Saunders was taking the mound for the Mariners.
- Michael Morse’s first inning homerun underwent video review and it seems as though the umpire’s still made the wrong call. The ball seemed to have hit off the facing of the second deck in foul territory beside the foul pole. The umpires ruled it a homerun after video review.
Royals Sign Rodriguez After Injuries
The Kansas City Royals have decided to sign relief pitcher Francisco Rodriguez after a couple of injuries to members of their bullpen. The signing comes hours after it was announced that both Greg Holland and Aaron Crow will both miss time with injuries. The move also comes just days after signing closers Brian Wilson and Jose Valverde, both who are currently in Triple-A.
The former Mets closer spent time with the Brewers in the past two years and will likely serve as either a middle reliever or as the setup man for closer Greg Holland. Rodriguez pitched 72 innings for the Brewers last season and finished the season with a 4.38 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP.
