(I saw this comment posted on the link and I completely agree with he was saying) "While I think that JaMarcus is a QB that is wasting his talent by not being in playing shape or studying the playbook and does not deserve to be a QB in the NFL, I fail to see why there is so much hatred towards him. Yes, he got a huge contract and is now considered the biggest bust in the NFL, but tell me, would you turn down $29M guaranteed out of college? Who held a gun to Al Davis and forced him to give JaMarcus that contract - certainly not Kiffin? As far as breaking the law, cough syrup with codeine??? Really??? The cops busted him IN HIS HOME for cough syrup??? Let's see, it's OK for the SB winning coach to "allegedly" steal vicodin from the team drug locker (no suspension talk from Goodell for Payton). It's also OK for the Lions president to be wasted (BAC of 0.21) while driving, and for Ellison to have 100 pills of vicodin while driving near a school (he was signed by Seattle a week after SD released him), but having cough syrup gets you hated by all the fans."

While the story is a sad one, of sorts, and I don't wish bad on anyone, I'm just "glad" it happened to keep my Jets from continuing to consider Jemarcus. His timing was perfect.

That being said, Jemarcus may just need a change of scenery and new think tank to get "back on track". Maybe Rex and Co. could have whipped him into shape.

I really hope he can get his life together!

stuff like this is just becoming too common. The "pros" are making millions of $$ to play a game and we have stuff like Russel being a total waste of talent, Big Ben doing his thing, and this NBA "max contract" crap has me sick and tired of it all. Why does Lebron need an hour long special to announce his free agency choice?
Anyways Russel needs to suck it up like a big boy and be a freaking man. But your business in order and make a positive story out of yourself.

Response to boltsfan92:

Stat Comparison (courtesy of nfl.com)

Leaf: 48.4% completion, 3,666 yds, 14 tds, 36 int, 50.0 passer rating, 12 lost fumbles
Russell: 52.1% completion, 4,083 yds, 18 tds, 23 int, 65.2 passer rating, 15 lost fumbles

Both quarterbacks did this in three seasons (Ryan leaf was in the league for 4 seasons, but did not take a single snap in 1999). So, based on these numbers, Leaf was worse. However, let's take into account other variables, such as draft status and off field issues.

Leaf: 2nd overall pick (1998 NFL draft), immature locker room presence, snapped at media member
Russell: 1st overall pick (2007 NFL draft), minimal work ethic, busted for codeine which is a controlled substance.

Leaf wasn't the first QB taken in the 1998 NFL draft (P. Manning was taken #1), but Russell was in 2007. It also doesn't help that Tyler Thigpen went undrafted in 2007, only to throw 18 tds (the same amount that Jamarcus has thrown his entire career) in 2008 filling in for Damon Huard.

So, bearing all of the aforementioned material, it is possible to make a case for both QB's as the biggest busts of all time. Of course, we aren't considering other top QB busts such as Tim Couch, Heath Shuler, Andre Ware, Akili Smith, David Klingler, Cade McNown, etc.

Also, only the best of luck to Jamarcus Russell and his family. Let's hope he can turn it around and make something positive out of all of this.
