Keels said Monday that he hadn’t heard from Smith about any change in representation. However, Smith submitted the paperwork to fire Keels to the players union, effective Sunday. Players must wait five days before hiring a new agent.
Smith and Keels were scheduled to meet in Atlanta, where Smith has been training, on late Monday night or Tuesday morning. It is unclear if that meeting took place.
Keels hasn’t returned phone messages.
Smith is a projected top-10 selection whose image is apparently on the mend after he spurred character concerns when he left the NFL Scouting Combine in February unannounced.
Smith was considered the top offensive tackle prospect, but his suspension from the Sugar Bowl for alleged illegal contact with an agent and his questionable conditioning and departure from the combine raised red flags. He seemingly has calmed some of those concerns in private workouts and interviews over the past few weeks.

Staying when you've got all that money on the table wouldn't be smart though, but yes, he needs to get his act together.
