The Knicks made a few good moves so far by picking up Amar'e and Carmelo but they are still far from having a championship contending team. Many people think the answer is firing Mike Dantoni but i don't think this is true. Mike was the one who got all those superstars to co-exist on the offensive end of the court during the Olympics. I think one of the main things the knicks need is a consistent slashing 2 guard. Everyone on the current team seems to settle for the jumpshot too often because they think thats how they are supposed to fit into dantoni's system however this is why they arent a good team. If they had someone besides douglas, anthony or fields slashing to the hoop with some sort of consistency from the shooting guard position they could break the defense down much easier leaving amar'e and carmelo easier more open shots. No doubt these 2 superstars have great talent on the offensive end but the shots i see them taking this season are not good shots they are always heavily contested because they are getting their shots off of one on one situations. The only reason they get away with it is because more than half the time these ridiculous shots go in! So as I said before I think the missing piece on offense is a slashing 2 guard. They already have a low post presence in amar'e and a decent distributing pg in billups. They also have a solid offensive threat at the small forward position in carmelo. Now you may argue and say that carmelo can slash into the defense and so can billups and even amar'e however I think having a player like jamal crawford, jason richardson, or brandon roy would give the knicks a player that is way better suited to slash the defense and finish or pass out to an open shooter. Carmelo can slash into the defense however he doesnt have the dribbling skill or passing skill that a solid slashing SG would have. Billups on the other hand can also slash with some effectiveness however he has lost some of his burst and doesnt have the size to finish at the rim consistently. Amar'e has the size and can often finish when he slashs however he is very turnover prone when he dribble-drives because he obviously doesnt have the passing or dribbling skills that a guard has. I think ever since the Knicks started this whole revamping of the team and traded away Crawford and Zack Randolph they have lacked a solid slashing shooting guard and a decent big man presence on the defensive end of the court. On the defensive and rebounding side of things the knicks obviously need a true center!!! Not Foul prone Ronny turiaf who if he played the whole first quarter would foul out in the first quarter lol, not amar'e who is thin to body up the dwight howards or yao mings of the league. Kendrick Perkins would have been a nice addition if he didn't go to okc so we will have to see what the future brings the NY Knickerbockers in the future in terms of another big man. It just amazes me how getting Amar'e and Carmelo can make everyone forget that Donny Walsh and his goons never replaced what they traded away in the first place; two very important aspects to any basketball team; a solid big man presence in the paint at the CENTER position(amar'e is not a center lol) and a solid slashing shooting guard.

i think the knicks would have been better if they kept felton and not got chancey, he is younger and played very well for the knicks while he was their, he easliy could have been on the all star team with few complaints.

ok thanx for the advice and I agree i wish we could have kept felton somehow or chandler they both were slashers and played defense fairly well
