FILTERED!!!
Posted on March 24, 2009 at 09:46 PM.
That’s pretty much it for me….
Osatwork.com was a god send for me as the regular OS site was filtered at work. I could still access all the OS goodness, (except blogs) but now the creeping reach of regulation has reached out and gobbled up anything ‘/forums’. And seeing as how I do about 90% of my interweb surfing at work, and 99% of my time on OS in the forums, well….. you can do the math.

And I'm probably not the only one affected. All these filter ‘engines’ seem to be in lock step with each other, so if your on here using osatwork if you haven’t been locked out of the forums already you probably will be soon (and you’ve probably never been able to go to peoples blogs so your not reading this anyway).
Its been a fun couple of years.

And before I take my leave, my ignore list: Never Forget!

If we created a mirror of the forums at "osatwork.com/ssshhh/" would it work for you?

yeah I discovered that these filters key off the html address so stuff with /blog /forum in the address gets automatically filtered

Honestly this is always going to be a battle. Most companies hire outside firms who's entire existance is finding ways to keep you from getting to web sites like OS.

But their strength is also their weakness.

Here's what I did.

1 - Go out and buy a domain. They're cheap - $10 or so at GoDaddy.

2 - Go out and get some web space with CGI/PERL support. This day and age I'd be surprised if most web saavy folks don't have web space anyway.

3 - Head here ... http://www.jmarshall.com/tools/cgiproxy/ - this is the same web proxy software sites like vtunnel.com use. Follow the instructions to install it.

4 - Password protect the directory you installed it to. I'd suggest installing it to like www.yourdomain.com/images/ or something.

5 - Create a file called index.php. put the following in it ...
Code:

That will take the proxy and run it inside of a frame set so the URLs you are actually travelling to are never registered by your internet browser at work.

So what does this all do? basically sets up a backdoor to the Internet. You are able to use the proxy to visit any web site out there since the traffic is being funneled through your web space. All your company sees is you going to www.yourwebspace.com.

doh - code didn't work like i hoped it would lol. if you go this route let me know and I can email you the index.php file. basically just using an iframe for the proxy.
