David Price finally got his first win of the season on Sunday, but it wasn't without incident. After 7 strong innings of work, Price gave up 2 runs in the 8th before being pulled after a Jim Thome ground out to start the 9th. 1 error and 2 hits later, given up by Kyle Farnsworth, the bases were loaded and the Twins were only down 1 run. Even after Farnsworth induced the game-ending ground out from Denard Span, Price was livid.
"I don't give a *&$# if we won. You think I care about winning? What, am I supposed to be the coach, dominant pitcher, and sports psychologist out there all at once? *$&# that, man." Price continued. "I'm an all-star. I do what I want."
When a reporter asked about pitch counts, and why he may have been pulled from the game it was almost too much for Price to handle. "Pitch counts? Pitch counts? Not a game, not a game...but pitch counts? We're sitting here and I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we're talking about pitch counts? We're talking about pitch counts, man. How silly is that?" Price said. "I'm an all-star. I do what I want."
Despite the fact that the Rays won this series against the Twins 3-1, it looks like there may be more underlying problems in the Rays clubhouse. It has already been an interesting year, and if there's anything we've learned so far it's that David Price is an all-star. And he does what he wants.
