Comeback kids!

WINNIPEG, MAR. 19 - The Jets topped the western-leading Colorado Avalanche in comeback fashion tonight in Winnipeg.

The first period saw both teams scoring. The Avs drew first blood with Parenteau deflecting a backhanded shot by Hejda past Pavelec. The answer came fairly quick, just 16 minutes later, when Nichushkin, with a strong slap shot, beated Berra to equalize the score.

The Jets dominated the second period, having the best chances and putting the Avalanche against the wall, but the home team couldn't make it past Reto Berra and once again the second was a stalemate.

All the emotions were saved for the last one, and it didn't disappoint the crowd as both teams scored two times. The Avs once again striked first with Tanguay in the same fashion as Parenteau: deflecting a shot by Hejda. 11 minutes later, Stastny deked past Ekman-Larsson to score a powerplay goal and make it a two-goal game, apparently putting it away for Colorado.

But then, Winnipeg's first line woke up.

Just a minute afterwards, Bogosian unleashed a powerful slap shot from the blue line to put the difference in one again. After that, it was a one-team game, with the Jets once again putting a heavy pressure on the Avs goalie. It finally paid off when Jokinen, with just 1:52 on the clock, found Wheeler between 2 opposite defenders. The team's top scorer ripped an one-timer to beat the goalie once again and comeback from a 2-goal hole to tie it all.

"You can't be caught sleeping like that." - said Avs' top forward Matt Duchene - "(Blake) Wheeler knows how to score, we all know this. He's one of the league top goal scorers this season by a reason and we know that. To let him get a clear shot in front of net like that is suicide."

What seemed like a comeback almost turned into a nightmare when Byfuglien took a major penalty for game misconduct, meaning the Jets would have to play the entire overtime with just 3 men on the ice.

However, that wasn't a problem. The Avalanche seemed too tired and obviously shaken by the unlikely comeback mounted by the Jets. The crowd at MTS Centre was nearly insane.

When Barrie took a penalty in the OT to make it a 3-on-3 game, the outcome was almost predictable. And it didn't take too long to happen: Mackinnon tried to carry the puck to the neutral zone after the faceoff, but Redmond, a AHL player not long ago, stole him the puck and shot from the line. Ladd deflected it in front of the net to score the game-winner.

"When I was down with the ankle injury, all I thought was: 'Hell, I wanna be on ice to help them'. I saw the team struggle and to just sit there doing nothing was killing me. Now, I'm glad to be part of it again. Glad to be scoring goals and assists to help the team. We just beated the top team of the conference, one of the top of the league, and this fact by itself shows that our struggle is already on the past. Now we must focus to keep this good job until the playoffs come." Said forward Andrew Ladd

Winnipeg now have two days off before hosting the Carolina Hurricanes on saturday, 22.
