NBA2K12 Playbook Changes “SIM World”
Disclaimer: These playbooks do NOT NEED to be inputted into your game for the “SIM WORLD” rosters to have a good experience. These playbooks are for those who wish to have options available and would like to add more depth to their game. If using these playbooks without the play types assigned for each player on a team your results will not be the same as using them with the “SIM WORLD” rosters as these were made specifically for the “SIM WORLD” rosters and tie directly into the play types assigned for every player. These playbooks were created by myself and do not express the opinions of the team so please do not hit any of them up with questions regarding these playbooks. Thank you!
I would like to start by saying thank you to Ronyell, yAk, and the rest of the team on the SIM World project! Everyone on the team has there specialty and plays happens to be mine. A little background on myself, I am a basketball coach and do it for a living and have been coaching for over 12 years now. It’s my passion and what I love to do so naturally one of the first things I look at in 2k games is the plays. I have played every 2k basketball game ever made from the dream cast days, and I have been gaming since the Atari and intellivision days. I know that dates me a little bit. J Anyways, I have visited this site for years before signing up 3 years ago. I lurk a lot and don’t post much. I have taken plenty from this site over the years! So, this is a chance for me to give something back to the community. I have searched for threads on plays in the past and I have never really found anything that I was looking for. So, I decided to dive into this project with these guys and help out. This is my first blog and I thought it would be good to have this in an area that people can always find or reference back to.
These playlists are for added plays that need to be manually entered into the game by YOU. There is a playbook name glitch when uploading to 2k share that causes all plays that get added to all have the name 95 Bulls Isolation play when uploaded. Even though the name shows up the plays are still there when you play a game and they are the right plays, but you couldn’t change the plays if you wanted to because you wouldn’t know which play is which. Hence why I am posting this list for everyone rather than putting them into our file. It should also be noted that you can replace any original play without this glitch happening.
That being said I want everyone to know that these lists of plays were specifically made for the SIM World rosters. The reason I say this is that all these plays tie into the specific play types assigned to each player and team. In the roster that is most current we have removed all of the broken plays and the bad design plays. Plays with bad spacing, bad motion, PG holding the ball too long, pass never initiated to start a play, play takes too long to finish, etc. I tested EVERY play in the game with CPU vs CPU as well as User vs CPU to test how the CPU and AI would execute a play against itself as well as a human. I tested plays 5-10x a piece to make sure the results were valid and not a fluke. We found 354 plays that needed to be replaced.
· We removed 354 plays (I will not be listing all the plays that we removed before this playbook so please do not ask. Just know these plays have already been removed from within the file that was released last week). http://www.operationsports.com/forums/nba-2k-rosters/532234-nba-2k12-sim-world-roster-project-360-a.html
· We replaced 354 plays
· We added 446 plays to give every team 50 plays (see below)
· Plays removed below were not necessarily broken but team specific choices that were made for either personnel reasons or there was a better play with better spacing or basketball action with a different play that better suited that team IMO.
As going through this process it became obvious that we created a monster and you have never seen a better playing AI with these plays implemented into each team. Every team has quick hitters, but we tried to give teams that run motion or more half court sets the longer developing plays then say a team like the Suns or Knicks. Those teams received quicker hitting plays. Now keep in mind the coaching profiles, playbooks, and player tendencies all play a role in how a team plays. My goal was to get each team to play the way they do in real life in the half court through plays. When plays break down and teams go into freelance mode the team did a amazing job with the tendencies. Combine these 2 and you have a unbelievable playing game! I have seen teams run 2 plays in a single shot clock when the first play option wasn’t available. It’s a thing of beauty to watch. Watching Melo get that wing iso or high post up, Rubio and Love running a Pick N Pop for 3, the Blazers running a few flex option plays (that work), Bynum posting up and the triangle offense a thing of the past, and Chris Paul throwing lobs in lob city to Blake Griffin (happened to me 3 times last night in 1 game out of actual set plays and not freelance) because they all have assigned plays that work specifically for each player and team. Once again, everything is tied together and every play that we added is tied into each team’s philosophy, player specific plays run for that player and the spots that he likes to get the ball, as well as play types for each player, and last and most importantly the plays we used aren’t broken!
Some of the different things I did specifically was break down each play. For example Pick N Rolls that take place from the sideline, wing, top key, Pick N Pop for a 3 pointer in the same positions on the floor as stated before as well as Pick N Pop for mid range jumpers in certain spots. Every team has different angles from where they attack. You will see Steve Nash coming off picks from the wing, sideline, top key, angled screens, double picks, horn sets, etc. What the 50 plays gives you for every team is a variety so you won’t see the same play over and over throughout a season and let alone a single game. You might see Bynum posting up and think it’s the same play, but look closer and what you will really see is a high low look one play, a straight post entry from PG another play, then you might have Kobe coming off a pin down from Bynum and receiving the pass on the wing and immediately hitting Bynum in the post if he doesn’t have the open jumper the next play. You will see a wide variety of plays. You will still see the same plays run throughout the game as well but they mix in now. It does depend on how many plays are within a play type and the player the CPU is calling a play for and what play types he has assigned to him to what you will see in game.
Another thing to note, I kept all the option plays in the game! These plays are great
· There are only 5-6 good back to the basket high post (elbow) in the game.
· There are only 12-15 good cutter plays that work in the game.
· There are only 5-6 good mid range plays with a pass catching a shooter in stride.
· There are only 2 good high/low plays that work and pass is made in the game.
· There is 3-4 good motion plays (flex or basic motion) executed well in the game.
· There are only 6-8 good handoff plays in the game.
· There are only 2-3 Alley-oop plays that work (CPU executed) in the game.
· Very few flare plays where CPU will make that flare pass
· Limited well run Pick N Pop plays in different categories named above (side, wing, top key, 3 point, etc).
So, it becomes tough when assigning plays to certain teams with a limited selection of plays that work when you break it all down. So, you will see teams that have similar plays and we did this for a few different reasons.
· Very few plays in a specific play type that worked.
· We thought it would be good to add a few of the same plays so when users are switching playing games from team to team they would see some familiar plays that they knew to help the learning curve and give a user some familiarity within different playbooks.
· Some plays are what you see in every game you watch on TV. Plays like Pick N Rolls that happen at the top of key with a great roll and shooters spaced in the corners. OR a play like ATL Inverse Post (simple play but very common action) with good spacing, options, and a good entry pass to the post.
With all that being said I will be updating this page from time to time as I make changes throughout the year. This will always be a work in progress. These playbooks are not perfect nor will they ever be perfect. I watch a lot of basketball and when I see something like Chris Paul and Clippers running a double Horn screen from the wing then I will make sure it gets in the game. For instance for all you Blazer fans out there will notice things like Jamal Crawford coming off a razor cut and receive a immediate pick, or you will see them run some flex action from time to time, or you will see a post up or cut by Gerald Wallace and pick N Pops for LA. You will see Ray Allen coming off floppy’s, razors, down screens and this will happen all over the floor like the corner, wing, top key, etc to keep you on your toes. Never has off ball defense been more needed in a basketball game before! J I hope you all start to make changes in game and utilize the new controls 2k gave us with the hedging and going over or under screens. You will need it when inputting all these plays! It will take you awhile to input them all but it is well worth it! Trust me!
The plays in black are plays that need to be added in. If a play is in red that play needs to be replaced with the play to its left. Any questions just PM me…
I hope you all enjoy these playlists and I hope to hear some feedback. Only thing I ask when talking about plays is make sure when complaining about a play being removed that you test it CPU vs. CPU and make sure that your points are valid with a player or team running certain plays within certain sets with maybe a video clip attached if possible. I hope we all as a community can make plays a bigger part of these threads and work together to get the most accurate plays for every team. I think this is a good start!
Thank you OS, Ronyell, yAk, SIM WORLD team, and the SIM NATION! ENJOY!
* Most all floppy plays can be found in Wizards and Warriors playbooks at the bottom of playbook.

Things I would like to see implemented in future NBA2k titles
· Add more play types (dribble handoffs/improve the dribble handoff and create a better animation on handoff)
· Add the ability to assign only certain plays to just certain players rather than every player with that play type receiving the same play.
· See a users ability to be able to weight certain plays within a playbook so the AI calls the better play more often. Think madden game planning. 1 to 5 stars.
· Organize the plays better when calling them within a game. Maybe something like this… In a game, tap LB to bring up player you want to call play for, then after you hit the player you want to call a play for the play type screen then comes up with a list of which play type you would like to call (cutter,PNR, low post, etc). After hitting let’s say PNR then all those plays and only those plays will show up. As it is now, 7 pages of plays mixed together becomes tough to find the play you want.
· Get rid of all these broken plays and bad designed plays. Give us more option plays. The more option plays the less broken plays we will see where the CPU doesn’t make passes and the more back up options the CPU and AI has is always for the better.
· In coach mode give us the ability to be able to call a specific play in game.
· Give us the ability to save our playbooks outside of the roster (settings file) and in online games. This way no matter what roster I am using I will have the same plays saved.
· Give us the ability to take our own created roster file into an online association.
· Give the commissioner in online leagues all the power to edit anything and everything from resetting games, edit players, slider control, etc…

This is a huge service to the OS (and 2K) gamer base. I can't even begin to express how important playbooks are to the 2K12 experience and it's an issue that has gotten far too little attention by the community. I'd even go so far as to say that any roster without custom playbooks is in dire need of taking this step so their followers can truly experience NBA 2K12 the way it's supposed to be.

Outstanding work man!! Sorry but I'm a noob regarding this aspect of the game... Do I input them in the "Edit Offense" menu? No plays need to be replaced, so how I add them?
# 4
vannwolfhawk @ Jan 20
In the main menu, you will go to rosters and then go to playbooks. The teams playbook you want to add or replace plays for will be on the left. If you want to add a play then go all the way to the bottom on the left side playbook and click on the empty space on the bottom. It will ask you if you want to add play. Click yes. Then it will take you to the playbooks on the right side and you will just go to the team and play and click on it. It will then add that play to your roster.
MAKE SURE TO SAVE YOUR ROSTER WHEN DONE!
The same applies for replacing plays with the red. Only difference is you will click on the play you want to remove and it will ask you again if you want to replace this play. Click yes and then pick the play you want to replace it with.

I've already started a Chise a while ago, i'm what, 55+ games in..if i edit every team playbook with the information above, will the CPU shoot earlier? Cause as of right now, the CPU waits until the shot clock hits like, 1 sometimes to shoot, and that can get frustrating.
Basically what i'm saying is, what do i need to do to get the CPU to shoot earlier in the shot clock

Yes and no. The plays act much quicker and you will lose the plays where CPU just dribbles and the plays are broken or have bad design.
BUT...
coaching profiles tie in as well. So if you up teams tempo that will help with faster ball movement as well as they are more apt to take shots quicker and with less space. These plays will help 1000% with your problem though! Keep in mind certain teams have longer plays mixed in while faster tempo teams have more quick hitter than others...

Thanks man, that answer is music to my ears. I admire your hard work. It's time for me to edit all the plays. Thanks again.

There will still be broken plays left in your playbook if your not using the SIM WORLD roster. We removed all the broken plays in that file already before releasing this.
Using this will eliminate some more bad designed plays and add plays that are more team specific though.
So, it will help but not take away your problem 100% until all those plays are removed from a playbook.
Also, there are some plays in red that you wont find in a teams playbook because they are again exclusive to sim world roster. Those were plays we added but decided to replace... I just wanted to give you a heads up before you started this 4-5 hour project!
I hope that helps you better understand that it will help but you will still have some plays that are in that 2k put in that are just flat out broke. Also, make sure you read the whole blog as these plays are specific and tie into the play types for a player so yours in your association will be different then what we have for the sim world roster...
If you have more questions about that just pm me...

The SIM WORLD roster is for 360 only. These will work for any system if inputted into the game. It will improve the game 1000% but we already removed all the broken plays on the sim world roster which is why you dont see those here.
Also, some plays you need to replace on this list you wont find in a playbook (very few) because we already replaced them in The SIM WORLD rosters. Keep in mind these also tie into play types for players. Im sure they transfer over just fine though and you will AT LEAST get the variety and guys getting the shots in the right places for each team as they are team and player specific.
Only fault with a few plays and nothing we can do about this til 2k changes it is...
Ex: Jamal Crawford has the jet over play where he comes off a razor for a jumper or if its not there he will get a immediate PNR or PNP directly after receiving the pass from the PF. The problem is any player on the Blazers that has this play type will also get this play. I made sure to minimize these situations but it will happen every here and there...
Anyways, they will work fine on any system but were tailor made for SIM WORLD roster project...

As of now no. If we did, thats when the name glitch comes in. In that roster now you will get all the broken plays removed though. If you add these to that roster you will see a 1000% different game!
