VOTE WILL DECIDE THE NAME OF NFL's 32nd FRANCHISE; THE ALAMODOME GETS A FACELIFT
It's been done before – done to death some would say – but Stanley Seraffian views a poll in San Antonio the ideal way of finding a name for his new NFL franchise.
"We want fans in San Antonio to feel a sense of ownership to the team that's coming to their town," Seraffian commented on the reasoning behind the poll.
"We want people to come and cheer for a team they helped create."
A list of possible team names will be put together by the team management working together with various people in San Antonio, from your average sports fan, to journalists, from the head coach of the UTSA Roadrunners to the mayor himself.
Whether the vote will work or not remains to be seen but most people in San Antonio are at least happy about Seraffian's first order of business which is to start renovations on the Alamodome. Even though the plan is to start work on a brand new NFL stadium as soon as they find a plot, Seraffian will finance a number of upgrades, including increased seating in the Alamodome, before they move in, upgrades that will benefit the UTSA Roadrunners and the city of San Antonio itself for years. That kind of goodwill from an NFL owner is easy to get behind.
The new NFL franchise signed a 5 year lease at the Alamodome but hope to have their new stadium ready by the 2019 or 2020 season. If they can find a plot, that is.
