2016 Preseason #02: Cleveland Excited About Rookie QB; L.A. not so much...

The Browns Quest for a franchise QB continues and even though some Browns fans might want to postpone their verdict for at least another few weeks, others claim they've finally found their franchise QB in Cody Kessler.

The 23-year old out of USC was the Browns' 3rd round pick of the draft this spring and has impressed both his own fans and some media experts around the league. Kessler has completed 43 of 61 attempts for 553 yards, 6 TD's and 2 INT's and a 117.7 QB rating. Only two players have more passing yards through 3 games of preseason; one is Aaron Rodgers, which makes Cody Kessler look good, while the other is Dan Orlovsky, which reminds you it's still preseason.

In L.A. the future looks more uncertain as their franchise QB prospect and poster boy for the Rams' return to L.A. (Goff is born in California and played his college football for the California Golden Bears) has struggled with the new challenges the NFL brings to any rookie QB.

Goff started the preseason with 98 passing yards but also threw two interceptions and due to a minor injury was held out of the team's second preseason loss before returning against the Broncos in week 3. Goff completed only 3 of 7 attempts for 49 yards for a total of 147 yards, 2 interceptions and a QB rating of just 32.1 through 2 preseason games. That has some Rams fans worried but then again, he was up against the Broncos defense and I hear those guys are pretty good...

So far it looks like the newly signed ex-Patriot Jimmy Garoppolo will get the start in week 1 after being the only QB on the Rams roster with a somewhat acceptable performance. Goff migth still be the franchise QB down the line, but he doesn't look up for the challenge just yet.
