This is the story of Trevor Tinker, Jr, a promising young prospect in the NY Yankees farm system, trying to carve out a spot for himself and maybe, one day write his name in the history books.
Tinker, Jr, a 5 foot 7 inch, contact hitting, speedy second baseman, begins what hopes to be a long, successful career with the Yankees AA farm team, the Trenton Thunder. At age 18, he went through the showcase games and was drafted in the second round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. However, Trevor felt the pull of the college game and decided to forgo the pros. It turns out Trevor wasn't long for the college game, and when the Yankees came calling the next year with the 16th overall pick in the draft, the 19 year old packed his bags, hugged his parents, said goodbye to his family dog, and headed for New Jersey.
Those first couple of weeks were eye opening as he seemed to struggle a bit with the level of pitching he now faced, but he hunkered down, studied the competition, and worked on his swing with the hitting coach. Now, 32 games into the season, Tinker, Jr, finds himself amidst a 13-game hitting streak and carrying a .359 batting average!
People within the organization are noticing Mr. Tinker, Jr, and Trevor is doing everything he can to make sure he shows that he is here to help this organization however they need him. Just last week, the team asked him to give third base a try, and now he's the number 1 prospect behind Chase Utley. Look out Mr. Utley, there's a young gun staring at a big target on your back.
