My plans for NCAA conference realignment (FBS) part 1 of 4
Posted on June 7, 2010 at 07:20 PM.
Ok, so I figure the conferences should shake out two ways when it comes to conference realignment.

1. 10 conferences with 12 teams in each, with two divisions. BCS system stays in place. 5 of these conferences would be "power" conferences, while the other 5 would be considered "mid majors".

2. 8 conferences with 16 teams in each. 8 teams would have to move up from the FCS division and join lower conferences. 4 of these conferences would be "power" conferences, while the other four would be considered "mid majors". A different system for determining the national championship would be put in place, which will be explained in the next blog, as I am going to delve into the first option and only the power conferences.

Power Conference #1(Basically the ACC)
Division 1 (North Division)
1.Boston College
2.Maryland
3.North Carolina
4.NC State
5.Virginia
6.Virginia Tech
Division 2 (South Division)
1.South Carolina
2.Clemson
3.Wake Forest
4.Miami (FL)
5.Florida State
6.Duke

Power Conference #2 (Big Ten)
Division 1 (West)
1.Iowa
2.Illinois
3.Notre Dame
4.Wisconsin
5.Northwestern
6.Minnesota
Division 2 (East)
1.Michigan
2.Michigan State
3.Ohio State
4.Penn State
5.Indiana
6.Purdue

Power Conference #3 (Pac-10)
Division 1 (North)
1.Washington
2.Washington State
3.Oregon
4.Oregon State
5.Boise State
6.Colorado
Division 2 (South)
1.Stanford
2.UCLA
3.USC
4.Arizona
5.Arizona State
6.Cal

Power Conference #4 (Big XII)
Division 1 (North)
1.Nebraska
2.Missouri
3.Kansas
4.Kansas State
5.Utah
6.Oklahoma
Division 2 (South)
1.Texas
2.Texas Tech
3.Texas A&M
4.TCU
5.Baylor
6.Oklahoma State

Power Conference #5 (SEC)
Division 1 (West)
1.Arkansas
2.Ole Miss
3.Mississippi State
4.LSU
5.Auburn
6.Alabama
Division 2 (East)
1.Georgia
2.Georgia Tech
3.Kentucky
4.Vanderbilt
5.Florida
6.Tennessee

So there is the power conference alignment for the 12 team option.
Any new conference names? Ideas? Thoughts?

Please post comments.

i have a couple of questions......

1) So SC bolted for the SEC from the ACC and now they are going to go back? why would they, they got into the better conference (SEC).
2) GT will not go to the SEC unless the ACC folds, which they wont.
3) Why would the Big 12 throw out Iowa State to re-accept TCU, who they didnt want when they merged the Big Eight and the SWC in the first place?
4) ND doesnt want to join the Big Ten because they are a highly secular group of universities and ND is a catholic university. why does everyone keep putting them in there if there were to be expansion?
5) The Pac-10 doesnt want Boise.....they see them as inferior and have never wanted them. their football team is good but everything else stinks. it goes past more than just football.
6) why do all these conferences have to have the same amount of teams? all with 2 divisions? and why do u think all these conferences will survive?

i dont get why everyone wants to re-align every sport like they know whats best. and no one realizes the outside factors for why colleges are in certain conferences. its almost ridiculous. and doesnt anyone think that these schools think of other sports as well? TCU and Boise stink flat out at other major sports (except tcu at baseball) and there are money issues involved.

I just think it would be a fun thing to do. I also said this for FBS teams, as in FOOTBALL Bowl Subdivision.
