PLAY STYLE / TENDENCY SECTION IN PLAYER CREATION / PLAYER EDIT
Ok, so I see a LOT of people on this board talking about how they would like to "feel" the way their player is supposed to play on the field. This section of player editing should be in the game and would really improve the gameplay and overall feel of uniqueness for each team and player, which is very important in college football.
Ok, so first I will go with Play Styles. Play Styles need to be improved and the game is pathetic in terms of showcasing these. Example: HB (Power, Balanced, Speed)
QB Styles:
Pro-Style
All-Around
Spread Pass
Spread Run
Athletic (Different than Spread Run in that QB is a pure Athlete, lacking awareness or understanding of scheme.)
RB Styles:
All-Around
Athletic (Lacks RB Skills but has better physical Stats)
Scat Back
Contact Back
Receiving Back
Blocking Back (usually FB types)
WR/TE Styles:
Athletic
Deep Threat
Big Body
Possession (Differs from Big Body in that the WR/TE uses more receiving skill as opposed to physical strength or size to create completions on short routes. Route running and Hands will be higher but strength and veritcal will be lower.)
Blocking (more for a TE than receiver)
OL- Positions will be selected but styles will be the same (Need most help in terms of suggestions here)
Quick
Bulldozer/Roadkill
All Around
Smart (Lineman will be able to get to the assignments and know the assignments better than any other lineman. Very useful in a spread offense predicated on speedy backs that only need a crease.)
DL Styles
Big Body
Athletic (Ndamukong Suh anyone?)
Speed Rush
All Around
Power
LB Styles
Athletic
Run Stop
Pass Rush
Coverage
All Around
Tackler
DB Styles
Bump and Run
Ball Hawk
Hard Hitting
Athletic
All Around
Tackling (More for a S than CB)
Coverage
ONCE AGAIN SUGGESTIONS AND CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM IS APPRECIATED
THIS IS BY NO MEANS COMPLETE OR THE BEST IDEA, JUST THE BEGINNING OF AN IDEA

So I take it that an Athletic play style is someone that is athletic enough for the position but lacks the necessary skills for that position. So like an 'athletic' corner would have good Speed, Acceleration, (Quickness), and Vertical. But would be poor in the ratings, defend pass, awareness, and maybe a stat like tackle? I'm I understanding you right?

absolutely. Athletic players as recruits will usually be ATHs in recruiting too, being superior physically, and having mediocre skills on both offense and defense that need to be developed.
SAMPLE 4 Star ATH Recruit:
6'1" 190lbs. (WR/DB)
Speed: 91
Acceleration: 90
Quickness 87
Vertical: 84
Offensive Awareness: 51
Defensive Awareness: 55
Break Tackle: 50
Elude Tackle: 68
Carrying/Ball Security: 57
Hands: 70
Catch in Traffic: 60
Wrap Tackle: 55
Shoulder Tackle: 64
Low Tackle: 65
Pursuit: 70
Play Rec.: 67
Man Cov: 73
Zone: 70
Locate Ball: 75
Defend Pass: 73
WR Overall: 74
RB Overall: 70
CB Overall: 75
FS Overall: 73
SS Overall: 70
So, as you can see, the "Athletic" playstyle will give a recruit some skill at everything, but said recruit will have great physical attributes, and that is what they will rely on when they play most of their career, unless they have excellent potential or start off as a very highly rated 5 star player.

I would love to see categories for the positions, especially having the "athlete" label for each position instead of just the position "athlete." A "WR/CB athlete" or "CB/S athlete" takes some of the guessing out of what you're getting.
I'm always begging for more control over off-season training. This would allow you to recruit a big WR with the intent of turning him into a TE. In the offseason you could spend your training pts on improving his blocking. I like trying to recruit big RB's to play FB, or big WR's to play TE, but when you change the position they end up rated like a 51.

Off season training and Spring football would be a big boost in the game in terms of making dynasty mode fresh. I definitely agree with you there. In terms of the athlete thing tho, I'm not suggesting actually attaching positions to the athletes, because that may limit them in a sense. In my "sample athlete recruit" the player was able to play 5 positions without that much of a drop off, so the versatility is what I was going for. I mean, in the game now, you don't really have any guessing in what you are getting, except that it isn't labeled. I don't think that is true to real life, because an ATH recruit in real life can play 5 or 6 positions on the field.

I would love this. It kind of reminds me of All Pro Football. I loved how they rated players. It wouldn't have to be just like they did it, but I love the idea of having styles of player. I also hate when you move player to a different possition and their rating is terrible. So unrealistic. The NCAA games on PS2 allowed you do do it and sometimes the players rating would go up. You should be able to move big RB that is rated 70 to 80 ovr to FB and not loss much of his rating. Would love to be able to have off season focus'. Like adding wait to a 275 lb OL. Or working on a receivers hands or route running. Or working with a QB's footwork to improve acc. These things shouldn't be so random.
Also if they would make coaches skill matter you could have a coach that is very good with working with a certain possition. A QB guru. All QB's with that coach should have huge improvement in awr and ACC.

Sorry for all the terrible spelling. I get in a hurry with my typing when I'm excited.

So a big bodied receiver would be a a 6-5 guy who's pretty slow, and a posession guy would be one who makes catches well and gets open in tight spaces, like the New York Giants Steve Smith?

@guitar, yep, you've pretty much picked up everything I was putting down about the difference between a big body and a possession receiver. This would also be a big help for RTG mode giving you more options to choose the way you played.
