NCAA FBS WELCOMES UNC GREENSBORO

After the recent decision by the University of Idaho to drop FBS level football, the NCAA has been scrambling to find a replacement school for the 2013-2014 Season. (Due to the fact that FCS level school have already scheduled their seasons, they were not an option for upgrading.)

This left NCAA President Mark Emmert along with the Board of Directors in a conundrum. After many weeks of deliberations and ballots, the NCAA extended an invitation to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNC Greensboro). Other school considered for the invitation included: Texas-Arlington, St. Louis, Southern Utah, and Pittsburg State University. The Board of Directors eventually settled on UNC Greensboro due to their location in a growing market and their D-1 basketball program.

UNCG athletic director, Kim Record, was very enthusiastic at the recently concluded press conference.

While the Spartans will remain affiliated with the SOCON in all other sports, they will begin this football season as a football independent.

Record also broke the news that the Spartans football team will be the subject of a weekly in-depth program on the soon to be launched FOX SPORTS 1 network. The program which will be titled, "FROM THE GROUND UP" will give viewers an exclusive, behind-the scenes look at the development of the Spartan football program. "It will be 'Hard Knocks' with a college twist," said producer Tom Goldenschmidt. The network will also have exclusive TV coverage rights for all UNCG football games.

"This has the opportunity to put Spartan Football on the map," exclaimed Record. "We are VERY excited to see the dividends this coverage pays in national exposure and recruiting for our new football program. We are also excited to see the spike in national attention's effect on our other athletic programs," she added.

As for now, the Spartan program will be actively pursuing hiring a coaching staff and recruiting players for the fall.
