My second season in the big leagues (third overall) came to an end today. After doing pinch hit duty for the majority of the season, a tough break occurred...literally. A fractured wrist in June put me on the 60-day DL until the middle of August.
Some good news did come out of this though. As soon as I was healthy, I was put into the starting lineup. I replaced the aging Aramis Ramirez, who seemed to be on somewhat of a cold streak and was failing expectations.
After catching my big break, I got on one heck of hot streak. One game during the streak had me a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. At one point, I was hitting .314. But as the saying goes, all good things come to an end. I then settled into an average streak where I would have my good and bad days.
The one bad thing about being put into the starting lineup so late in the season meant I would be taking more at-bats and would lose my rookie status for the upcoming season (130 at-bats or less). Oh well! Final stat line for the year:
From having the best record in the majors the year before, the Brew Crew fell quite a bit this season. In wild card contention, we weren't able to win tough series against the Cards, Cubs, and Bucs in the last weeks of the season. As a result, we ended the season with a .500 record at 81-81, a big change from the year before.
In the offseason, the roster took a hit as Carlos Gomez became a free agent and signed with the Braves. As for me, the Brewers offered me the starting job and another $500k. I countered with 6, but was ultimately offered $576k, which I accepted.
I'm not too optimistic about our chances next season, but we'll just have to see how it all plays out. At least I know I have the starting job now with a 79 overall rating at only 21 years of age! On to my third MLB season!
