Online Forum Petitions

Does anyone really care about these? Do they work?

Does anyone have an example of a petition working?

They seem really annoying and don't seem to have a real purpose in my opinion.

I mean any petitions in general. You could use that as an example.

there are few things more pointless in this world than those online petitions.

the biggest reason is there's no way to tell who the people are or, if you are the person being petitioned, anyway to gauge how many folks opinions actually matter. yeah, so 5,000 people think you should wear red socks to work and not black. but if none of those people are your boss, you could care less what they think.

real petitions in real life can have an impact if they are setup correctly. if you show up to your town's mayor with a 5,000 person petition about putting a stop light up at a busy intersection in your town, he's going to at least listen.

If you bring the same guy a 5,000 person petition about stopping the violence in Compton ... not so much.

Gotta concur with Bly on this one... I've never seen one of these to come to anything, but it makes the people signing them feel better, so there ya go.
