Madden Wait Seems Longer With No NCAA
Posted on August 10, 2014 at 01:00 PM.
Madden use to come out early August. This timed it close to the start of preseason so as we began seeing football on TV, we could start our virtual fix.

A couple of years ago it was pushed back to where Madden had long time been released, the end of August/early September. This was noticed by long time players but the wait was not bad. The reason was simple: we had a new football title in the latest NCAA game.

This year the void is there, especially for gamers that traded in their copy of Madden 25. The lack of a college football title to wet our appetite for the upcoming Madden release. In the past we were all worried about getting NCAA rosters and and winning our first couple of national titles so we can have a fresh draft class. Sadly, that is not the case this year.

As we await a future that due to the O'Bannon case my see a return of college football video games, but of course that is 2 years away.

The simple fact is we need to be getting use to this longer wait between football titles. After all, we don't have an early release for any of the other major sports. There is no basketball title that comes out a month or two early before we get our hands on NBA 2K15.

The truth is we've been spoiled. Many of us long time gamers remember the Madden releases coming in early September. (And NCAA didn't release until Early or Mid August in those days, if not later).

I have argued in the past that it is better to release games closer to the start of the actual season. It seems more natural that way. But of course, with a missing space on my gaming shelf for a college football title, the wait this year is more noticeable.

Maybe in the coming years we'll see a return of a College title and the wait will be easier. (And with it, a return of imported draft classes.) But until then, if you miss virtual football, maybe you'll have to hold on to Madden longer. Maybe you still have NCAA 14 and can download one of the 2014 season rosters that are already around on the forums.

But we all know it is not the same. And the bottom line is simple. We miss our college football video game fix. And nothing is going to truly fill the void until we see a new one. And while we are hopeful, the unknown is part of the problem.

Be on the look out for my next blog on the lack of edited draft classes in Madden.

I still play NCAA 14 so it helps. However just read on Pasta Padre that there will be no Madden demo this week. I just read a few days ago there would be a demo released on Aug. 12. Let's hope EA Access is launched next week.
