Rams Franchise

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Rams opened their second season in LA with a win, beating the Indianapolis Colts 24-21 to get in the win column early. It wasn't always a pretty game, but the Rams got a win in the end. The Colts jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead on the first possession of the game, driving down the field on the Rams defense with ease, with the drive eventually ending in a Robert Turbin short touchdown run. The Rams came back quick with a long touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Tyler Higbee on their second offensive play of the game to tie it up. After that point the scoring slowed a bit, but a back and forth effort eventually ended with the Rams running out the clock to escape with a 3 point win.

Todd Gurley carried the Rams offense in game 1, rushing for 109 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. He figures to be the centerpiece of this offense all year. Goff started the game with a bang, but much of the rest of the game was downhill from there. He rushed for a 9 yard touchdown run on a big 3rd and goal late in the first half to give the Rams a lead heading into the break. It wasn't all bright, however, as Goff threw 3 interceptions in the game, including 1 on an end zone pass to Robert Woods that left the Rams leaving the field empty-handed.

For the Colts, they found most of their success through the air, both with Andrew Luck and Jacoby Brissett. Luck suffered shoulder injuries late in the first half and early in the second half, causing Brissett to relieve him on both occasions. Luck came back in the game after both injuries, and he had a lot of success against this Rams secondary. The numbers aren't spectacular, but he had few issues throwing the ball in this one. Outside of a late interception by Trumaine Johnson that helped seal the game for Los Angeles, the Rams can't be satisfied with how they defended the pass in this one.
