NASHVILLE - This was an old fashioned dog fight that went the way of the Bulldogs tonight. Vanderbilt put together a great effort against the #11 Georgia Bulldogs, but in the end it wasn't enough, as Georgia came away with a 7-3 win. This moves Vanderbilt to 4-3 (2-2) on the season and brings Georgia to 6-1 (5-0) on the year.

Neither team got much of anything going on the offensive end of the field in this one, as the lone touchdown of the game was scored by Georgia's Nick Chubb in the second quarter. Chubb was able to rush for 134 yards and a score in this one, but he was the extent of the offense. On Vanderbilt's side, usually reliable Ralph Webb coughed up a fumble in the red zone in the first quarter that killed a promising drive. He wasn't able to get much going, finishing with just 57 yards on 20 carries. Quarterback Kyle Shurmur played relatively well throughout most of the game, throwing for 179 yards, but he too turned the ball over in the red zone in the first half, throwing a pick near the end zone to stop another potential Vandy scoring drive.

The Commodores had a shot to win it in the end, despite all this, but were stopped on a 4th and 1 from the Georgia 7 yard line with just under 3 minutes left in the game. It was a tough decision to go for it on 4th down, but with less than 3 minutes left, down 4 points with an offense that struggled to move the ball all night, it was the right choice. Nick Chubb was then able to seal the deal with a 44 yard run on 3rd and 1 with 1:30 left in the game.

After this game, the Commodores did receive several commits from high school recruits, shown below.
