ST. LOUIS- A disappointing outing from Alex Meyer led to a bad loss to a struggling St. Louis Cardinals team who had just been swept by the Twins in a two-game series in Minnesota. With this loss, the Twins drop to 33-20, first place in the AL Central by 4.5 games over the Detroit Tigers. The Cardinals, meanwhile, improve to 27-26, just 3.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for first-place in the NL Central.

The game started well for the Twins after Nick Swisher singled to give Minnesota a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but St. Louis came right back with a run of their own in the bottom of the first with a solo home run to center. The Cardinals secured a 3-1 lead in the third inning and looked to be on their way to a victory. In the top of the fourth, however, Aaron Hill hit an opposite-field two-run home run off an 0-2 pitch to tie the game. That would be all the scoring for the Twins in this one, though, as they would eventually lose 6-3, with Alex Meyer giving up 6 runs and 10 hits over just 4+ innings.

The two-game series concludes in St. Louis tomorrow at 1:20 P.M. as Cole De Vries goes up against Shelby Miller.
