The New York Mets take the season opening series from the Washington Nationals with a 2-0 win in the finale.

Jon Lester was electric in his six innings, only allowing 3 hits and striking out 3. Despite the low strikeout count, Lester was dominant, mixing speeds and location extremely well. He kept the Nats offense off-balance all afternoon, as they could only come up with 5 hits all afternoon.

In the bottom of the 2nd, Dominic Smith hit his first home run of the young season, a solo shot, to give the Mets the only run they would need to pull off the win. Cesar Puello would tack on an insurance run later in the 8th inning, to make it 2-0.

Felipe Rivero was fairly dominant on the hill for Washington as well, the only blemish being the home run by Dom Smith. His offense could not score him any runs despite his performance, however, and he walks away with the tough luck loss.

Next up, the Mets welcome the Baltimore Orioles for a 3 game interleague set at Citi Field. Former Met Trevor May (0-0, 0.00) makes his O's debut against the guy he was traded for, Jacob deGrom (0-0, 0.00), who is making his return to the Mets.
