The New York Mets begin their defense of their World Series championship with the first of three games vs. the Washington Nationals at Citi Field

Game Keys: (WAS) The Nationals finished the 2016 season in 3rd place in the NL East with an 80-82 record. The key to success for this season is to attempt to reduce their team ERA. In 2016, the Nationals finished with a 4.05 team ERA, 5th worst in the entire National League. Their hope is that today's starter. Steven Strasburg, can lead the improvement, and improve from his 9-13, 4.17 season in 2016.

(NYM) The Mets finished the 2016 season in 1st place in the NL East with a 109-53 record, sweeping each series in the 2016 postseason to win the World Series. Rookies such as Dominic Smith, Will Metzger and Kevin Plawecki led the charge throughout last season into the Postseason. To find success, the Mets will need these youngsters to prove the "Sophomore Slump" theory to be just a fluke, and have huge offensive and defensive seasons in their second year.
