Assessing the Earthquakes: Summer Transfer WIndow
Posted on November 5, 2014 at 05:59 AM.
We are now 20 games into an up and down season for the Earthquakes which sees them sitting fifth in the Western Conference with 25 points. Heading into the winter transfer window the Quakes have left us with almost as many questions as answers, personified in many ways by the squad losing or winning two in a row since the three straight losses in May.

The defense, which was speculated to be the weak point of the team has been solid overall, while it has been the attack that has been inconstant. New Coach Joshua Affonso has done a good job over the past 10 games of keeping players fresh, and the results have been mostly positive, especially for veteran players such as Chris Wondolowski and Sam Cronin. Newcomer Brad Knighton has been solid in goal over the course of the season, and though he has just three clean sheets the Earthquakes have allowed more than one goals just five times with him as the starter.

GM Jon Doyle suggested today in his press conference prior to the opening of the transfer window that the Earthquakes will not be looking for any major shakeups, but rather would like to supplement the talent here on the roster and improve depth, especially at the midfield and forward positions. He did, however, not dismiss the idea of adding an impact player at some point during the summer. "We always keep an eye on the market to see what opportunities might arise", said Doyle Wednesday morning, "we feel that we have enough talent on this roster to make a run right now, and if a player comes along that we feel could be the missing piece then I will not hesitate".

The summer transfer market will open today at 2pm EST.
