Week 6 - Patriots Pitch a Shutout Versus Baltimore
Posted on September 25, 2010 at 04:52 AM.
Despite having lost to (a very good 4-2) Denver Broncos in the prior week 5, some expected 3-2 Baltimore to hand New England its first "L" of the season. Despite having CB Dominique Foxworth out for several weeks with an injury, the Ravens' depth and level of talent at so many different positions is unquestionable. Their rushing attack destroyed the Pats in the 2009 NFL playoffs. However, that was then, and this is now. Having likely used week 5 (Pats' BYE week) to scout the Ravens, the Patriots came strong out of the gates, containing Baltimore and making it to the redzone on the first couple of offensive drives. The Pats know that if you consistently settle for field goals in this game, you are likely going to lose, but the Patriots defense mixed up and disguised their schemes well, and usually made the right call when Baltimore decided to try to run it. A tenacious defense allowed New England's offense to have sufficient opportunities and pressure-less rhythm to eventually reach paydirt late in the second half, and with momentum on their side, they never looked back. Pats pitch a shutout, and move to 5 and 0 on the season. Their next opponent shall be the 5-1 San Diego Chargers.

PLAY OF THE GAME:
Patriots QB Tom Brady exploits a glaring hole in the middle of Baltimore's defense and connects with a wide-open Randy Moss who, thanks to a solid block by Pats WR Brandon Tate, makes the yards-after-catch into a touchdown:

PLAYER OF THE GAME:
Patriots QB Tom Brady. After sputtering out otherwise strong drives to the redzone early on, Brady and his receivers eventually found ways to get it in for six. Brady ended the game completing 23 out of 30 passes, for 302 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions.
