**Big news this week is top in-state recruit Thurman Greene, a tight end prospect from Unalaska, has closed his recruiting process and signed a letter of intent to play at the University Of Washington. This was confirmed via twitter. ASU coaches were after Greene to come into the program to add another offensive weapon and improve their run blocking also. This comes after another tight end prospect, this one local anchorage student-athlete Aaron Bonds, told his head coach he would only play for a program with a historic tradition, which all but rules out the newly established Alaska State program. He is considering Wisconsin.

**Juneau, Alaska prospect Dwayne Moore, a 1-star FB, has committed to play at ASU, as has 3-star, #98 ranked RB Perry Williams of Mililani Town, Hawaii. Williams is a JUCO player out of Honolulu Junior College, and is listed at 6-1 194lbs, with good hands and speed to take it to the house. Moore is a 5-10 213lb blocking FB.

**You heard it hear first** - #14 ranked Athlete BJ Stewart is taking an official visit to campus this week according to reports. Stewart, a projected RB/DB, would be a huge pick up for this ASU staff.

Offensive Captain: Markell Cooley, 6-4 249lb senior from Ephrata, PA. Cooley, or "Mak-Cool", as he is known around the school, is a 4th year starter at QB. Cooley enters his final year as the record holder in most all QB categories. He has thrown for over 9000 yards, 52 TD, and run for over 2200 yards with 24 TD. Cooley found himself at Alaska State due to the fact he wanted to start right away, but his grades limited his college choices. Coach Tietsworth assured Markell's parents that he would make sure Markell received a diploma. This made the decision easy for Markell and his family, even though they knew seeing Markell play would be difficult from over 4,275 miles away. (Each Wednesday, The Cooley family receives a package in the mail with Alaska State's last game on it, so they can see their son play.) Markell is majoring in Outdoor Leadership, setting him up to hopefully obtain employment in the Forestry Service.

Defensive Captain: Rashaun Morris, 6-3 197lb senior from Mansfield, OH. Morris is one of 5 children, and the first to leave the state of Ohio for college. His 3 brothers and sister all attended the University of Akron. Morris is the first to play football, and he was a stellar PG for his high school team, being named second team all-state twice. Morris brings the smarts and awareness the coaches absolutely love. Morris is like a coach on the field some say, and being named captain was unanimous. Rashaun is a Fish Management major. This is his second year as Defensive Captain.

Holding onto a 16-6 lead proved to be too much for Alaska State. Give them credit, they took the #3 team in the nation, a powerhouse every year, to the brink of defeat. Credit given, but a loss is a loss, this one being a tough one. The SnowCat defense couldn't stop a revived FSU offense led by QB Ryan Jackson, who threw for 307yds and 3TD in the win. FSU held Alaska State to under 300 yards of offfense, and scored two TD in a span of 3 minutes to take the lead and never let it go, posting the come from behind victory 20-16.

Senior QB Markell Cooley, entering his 4th year as a starter, has been announced as a Pre-season finalist for the Heisman Trophy. Cooley has amassed 8,469 yards passing with 52 TD to only 28 interceptions. Also, he has run for 2,273 yards and 24 TD. Clearly Cooley can win both ways, leading his team to a 28-12 record with 2 conference championships and 2 bowl victories.

Alaska state reeled in its best recruiting class to date, coming in at #67 overall. Looking over the newcomers, Its not hard to see that special teams was a priority. Lets look at some key guys:
K - Nate Clark - #1 ranked kicker in this class. Good size and tremendous leg power, booming kicks over 60 yards at Elite camps over the winter. Projected starter.
P - Chuck Bennett - #2 ranked punter with a very strong and accurate leg. Projected starter.
DE - Allen Rooney & Justin Johnson - will fill in nicely with both senior ends graduating. Both will compete for a starting position in spring ball.
QB - Tyler Mann - Mann comes in as the #51 overall QB. He possesses great speed and a strong arm. He will most likely redshirt his first year.
MLB - Charles Robinson - #90 overall MLB, great at stopping the run. His big frame, 6-2 251 lbs, will translate to a potential starting spot if he can beat out McIntosh.
WR - Marcus Harrell - At 6-5, 213, he will be an easy target for any QB. They may try to redshirt him in year one.
Athlete - Joe Woodard - Junior college transfer from Cali. Was runner-up for JuCo Rising Star Award. Coaches are considering a LB or secondary role, preferably safety.

Carl Battle. He is basically a legend in the small town. The last 3 years Carl has been battling, no pun intended, on the field of football, amassing school records in almost every category. 122 catches, 1,756 yards, 13TD. Records that Battle believes will be broken in time by current or future recruits. Battle attributes his success to staying healthy, and putting in the time at practice to get better.
Carl is looking forward to a job as a weatherman at a small television station in Nome, Alaska.

Redshirt Freshman WR Alex Washington has requested to transfer to the University of Akron. Sources report that Washington was granted his release by Head Coach Shannon Tietsworth after a lengthy discussion. Alex made it known he wanted more playing time and, while he did catch 14 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown, Alex saw an opportunity to play closer to his hometown of Fairview Park, Ohio.

#23 Alaska State spotted Washington an 18 point lead before then outscoring the Huskies 53-14, to win the 2015 Las Vegas Bowl 63-42. ASU signal caller Markel Cooley threw two early interceptions before finding his rhythm and throwing for 281yds and 3-TD. Cooley also ran for another 2 scores on 78 yards rushing to lead his team to a second consecutive bowl win. RB Shaun Peterson contributed 134yds on the ground and tight end Ben Palmer hauled in 2 key touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, Rhett Motley added 3 sacks to his career high 9 sacks on the season to finish with 12 total. Motley also caused 2 fumbles on the day. The win was the 8th straight for Alaska State, finishing the season ranked in the top 20 at 11-3

10-2 New Mexico squares off against 9-3 Alaska State this weekend in the 2015 Mountain West Conference Championship game. Both teams are riding 6-game winning streaks coming into this game. New Mexico should prove to be a tough opponent as they are led by the NCAA passing leader, senior QB Trey Mathis. Mathis leads the NCAA in passing with 4,491 yards and 37 TD, also running for 525 yds and 4 TD. New Mexico has the #1 passing offense in the nation, yet neither team is ranked very high defensively, so be ready for a high scoring game.

True freshman strong safety William Davis is proving to be a valuable asset not only on defense, but also on offense. Injuries at the running back position have forced Alaska State coaches to give opportunities at running back to players at different positions. But Davis, a 6-3' 220 beast from Red Springs, NC, is no stranger to the position. Davis led his AAAA high school in rushing his junior and senior year, and led them in tackles on defense. Davis compiled 4500 yards and 44 touchdowns in 2 years starting at RB. Now, Davis has stepped in nicely at the #2 RB slot, rushing for 67 yards and a score in only 2 games. Davis is also leading the SnowCats defense in tackles with 52 and 6 pass defensed.
