There were no handshakes after this game. At the final whistle, every player and coach at Alaska State simply jogged, not walked, off the field. Except for ASU head coach Shannon Tietsworth. He just stood, gazing at the Washington State team as they celebrated a 66-12 victory. And as he stared, he could cleary be seen telling the Washington state head coach, "I'll remember this" as he stood and pointed at the scoreboard before joining his team in the locker room. I believe we have our first rivalry. WSU QB Dwayne Malone set the school record AND NCAA record for passing yards against and over matched ASU squad. Malone threw for 731 yards, breaking the NCAA record set by Ty Detmer at BYU in 1990. Malone was 43/55 passing with 6td and 3int. He also ran for one score. 4 receivers had over 100 yards receiving also, totaling 763 total yards. Probably the most questionable choice was Wazzou leaving in its starters the entire game, and continuing to throw the ball until the very last 2 plays. Let the war begin.
