2K vs. Live......Either way, its on!!
Posted on August 8, 2009 at 03:43 PM.
When EA got the exclusive deal with the NFL, a lot of people cried foul. And rightfully so. I mean, who wanted NFL 2K5 to be the final edition of such a great game? And even though I liked Madden and had both, I didn't think it was cool that 2K fans HAD to either accept Madden or not play NFL football.

Then the NBA turned down an exclusive deal and said, "we want competition in our video games." And boy am I glad they did. I can't imagine what it would've been like being stuck with Live only for the last 5 years or so. Because admittedly, Live has not measured up.

Well, well along comes Peter Moore and the "new EA direction." And by the look of things, the Live team is no longer taking it lying down.

Now this is not a blog about which NBA game is going to be better come this fall. Because honestly guys, I don't think it matters which one you prefer. I'm just glad that Live is looking good enough for us to even argue about it.

Just look around these OS boards. Guys are going back and forth about 2K and Live. Each game trying to one up the other. Come October 6th, I think whichever game you choose, you'll still miss out on a great game in the other.

Since I'm a PS3 guy I get to choose in baseball too. But I think The Show is the best sports game period so there's no decision to be made there. Other than that basketball and hockey are the only two sports I play where I get to choose between games. And this year Live, NHL 10, NBA 2K, and NHL 2K are all looking very good and making things tough. Just when I think I'm leaning toward one, I read something good about the other.

At least for me, this is tough guys. In a good way. And I love it.

Plus, The Show is already solid. It took things from the PS2 and expanded them like one would logically hope for a console jump (or so I've heard; I've only played it since 08 on PS3).

Like every year, I'll at least wait until demos to make my decision on basketball games, but I agree. The choice is there, and that drives consumers to speak with their purchases.

Regarding Live looking better, well, the debates happen every year whether they are making strides or not, so I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

Its been said over and over before ''competition breathes innovation''.... Too bad the vaginas who run NFL that wanted this exclusive license bull-crap don't understand that.

Good blog. I'm witcha on this. I'm glad to be a PS3 owner, as well, because I have MLB 09...but unfortunately, I don't have the deeper appreciation as either you or even my cuz because I am not a huge baseball fan yet the game is phenomenal. No frontin' on that one.

And u gotta admit, Petey gets things done, wherever he goes. He's a mover and a shaker and when it was first announced that he was joining EA, I pretty much expected this EASports gaming movement. Hopefully, he stays forever, because he usually doesn't stick around with a company for very long. Maybe his desire and motivation rubs some the wrong way? Hopefully, if that is the case, he's learned to ease up on that and channel it into just getting great product out.

I agree man. Now next-gen is starting to feel like where it needs to be. No offense to the last-gen but as much as we pay for PS3s and 360s we want some major separation. And now we're getting it.

No longer can a last-gen gamer claim the games a pretty much the same. We're starting to really see stuff that last-gen systems can't handle.
