Here Hope For A Fresh Fight Night This Time

I miss boxing. No, I don't mean since the last version of Fight Night. I mean real life boxing. Now, I know boxing still exist but come on. There are only a few fighters whose names we even recognize. And when they fight most of us don't see it because we don't wanna shell out 50 bucks for 3 boring undercard fights and a main event that doesn't live up to the hype.

And then they wonder why the popularity of the sport has fallen off. Back in the day we used to see Ali and Foreman, Frazier, Norton or whoever duke it out right there on ABC Sports. Both fighters made a name for themselves right there on network TV, regardless of the winner. Added to that, most of us loved the Rocky movies.

Well, what made boxing interesting was ALL the different mega-matchups. Seeing each of the fighters against each of the other fighters. Everybody battling for that number one contender spot for a shot at whoever was the champ at that time.

Since "real-life" boxing has fallen off so drastically, the next fun thing for us boxing fans would be to re-create the old days in a sports sim. Wait!! I'm not talking about legends in the game. Trust me, I hate that. I don't know about you guys, but Roy Jones, Jr. vs. Sugar Ray Robinson is wack. Give me more present day fighters and let the legends be an additional option (in my book they can leave 'em out). Besides its another way to promote fighters. Most of the guys I'll know from UFC are guys I'll learn about from the game when it hits the shelves this spring.

Back to the point....

Now with enough present day fighters; lets have the career, season, or whatever mode that plays like every other sports game. Complete with a schedule for all the fighters, the ability to play any fight you want, a ranking system, records (standings), fight history, re-matches, title fights at the large venues, newspaper clips, espn.com, online leagues, pre-fight in-studio, title belts, and the works. A boxing version of Madden if you will.

Kinda like in NCAA Football 09. There's dynasty mode and then there's campus legend. Two different modes. I know there are players that wanna see if they can work their way up the ranks and eventually face Ali for the title. Basically just a gauntlet. No drama. You beat one guy and face the next one going up the ladder. Thats why you keep the current career mode.

Maybe I'm in the minority. But I would like something other than cool graphics, a few old fighters, and a gauntlet. It gets old fast, very fast.

If nothing else EA... this year: give us BELTS!!!!! For goodness sake. Whats boxing without BELTS!!!!!!!

I like this write up. It's on point. The only difference we might have is I like matching today's boxers against yesterday's. It should be optional if you want them in your career.
