PS4 Disappointment
Posted on March 14, 2014 at 05:24 AM.
As solely a sports gamer, and a Sony fan (since PS) I've been patiently waiting on upgrading to PS4. To me there hasn't been a compelling reason to upgrade yet. I couldn't bring myself to get it before the holiday season, with only a Madden title that I would enjoy. I was further disappointed by the lack of a Tiger Woods game this spring. With the delayed release of The Show 14 for PS4, I am once again disillusioned. I'm not going to wait it out until May 6th to get it. I was even looking forward to FIFA World Cup because for years, I've been looking for a legitimate rival in depth to Road to World Cup 98. The lack of a next-gen college football game will ensure I keep my PS3 around forever.

Alas, PS4 for me will likely wait until the fall when Madden 15 and FIFA 15 release, unless there are further delays in next-gen sports game development.

I've probably put in about 10 hours since buying my PS4 launch system. I've been highly disappointed in the games so far as well, but with watch-dogs and MLB coming out in the next few months, I hope to start using the thing.

I have not picked up either next gen system yet. Probably will but its PC Gaming FTW at the moment.

I agree, which is why I don't plan to make the leap until 2015 for the Show's 2nd round on the PS4. I doubt Madden 15 will make me want to take the leap in September.

Yep. This is why I don't have it yet......hardly anything to play right now.

You're not missing anything. Madden is probably worse on PS4 than PS3.

Agreed The lack of sports sim games on the next gen systems is going to be very disappointing for sports gamers.

The technology in these systems are getting better, yet the developers are increasingly going after the casual gamers.
and dont forget to add the licensing issues, long development times, etc.
The sports gaming market has the potential to be very barren.

My brother has been there since launce (XBOX ONE). I on the other hand chose to wait, I could always go to his house and play NBA2k14 anytime, as both of these systems didn't have anything that was going to convince me to buying until TITANFALL came out on March 11.... I've played for 3 days when I decided to borrow NBA2k14 from my brother when I find out, I CAN"T!!! DISK DRIVE FAILURE.... Will be sending it back monday (I don't own a Credit Card anymore so I have to go for the standard transfer, instead of the Advanced).

Why would anybody rush out and buy one when you know there will be issues and a lack of games for a while. Get all the bugs worked out of them and get a good library of games built up, and then I will go get one.

The first year of a new system is generally slow. Exclusives are low and the hardware's potential hasn't truly been tapped. I personally believe waiting a year for a price cut and an improved library is the way to go. Of course it depends on your wallet. Mine is light so I will wait.

I have had a PS4 since launch and haven't looked back. BF4 is amazing visually miles ahead of the PS3 version. Madden may look similar but it plays a little better with a more challenging AI. The free games such as Outlast was a surprisingly clever and suspenseful game. And not to mention 2K14 looks and plays incredible.

Nothing wrong with choosing to wait. There are very few system sellers at launch. I just pickedup a XBox One for Titanfall. That is a system seller.

The Show, for us sports gamers, is absolutely the only reason I picked up a PS4. But with a golf game on the horizon (Golf Club) and with stellar games on the horizon the next-gen cycle will take shape.

^ Im really excited about The Golf Club coming out soon. I know a lot of people don't like golf but I really am hoping this game works out. I'm pleased with my PS4, I just wish i would work with my old bluetooth headset ... meh my cell phone earbuds work just fine

I hear you completely. I went with Sony this time around. Last gen I went with xbox and was glad I did, I'm sort of wishing I went with Xbox One. My friend has one and it is in almost every way more developed and better. More games, better User Interface and more features right now. The PS4 is severely lacking in games and features, so much so if it wasnt for FIFA I would have sold it.

This happens every time a "new generation" of consoles are launched. The first wave of games is underwhelming, and with Microsoft you probably have almost a year of hardware kinks being ironed out.

I realize that soon I'll be forced to upgrade, whenever the developers bail on the current gen altogether, but I'll be waiting until at least next fall for the sports titles, and hopefully a price reduction.

Funny, it didnt used to happen with the older systems. Games were always launched with a few stellar games.

By older I mean, snes, genesis, etc
