For those who may have missed it....Nintendo is scheduled to release a new video game system early next year, with a playable model set to debut next month in Los Angeles at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Just in case you missed the announcement and the smorgasbord of credible rumors that have hit the internet, Here's the rundown:
•It's significantly more powerful than the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, with a faster processor, a more advanced graphics chip, and revamped architecture that parallels that of the Xbox 360 to make porting games a seamless transition for 3rd party developers.
•The controller will feature a 6.2 inch High definition touch screen with 2 analog sticks, 8 buttons, d-pad, and a camera!
•The system was designed to attract a more core gamer vs the mainstream audience the Wii caterers to.
•Nintendo has designed the system with the intent on making it the premier experience for online/social gaming.
•The controller will also allow for games and content to stream seamlessly from the television to the controller.
Obviously, this will do wonders for sports games similar to the Sega Dreamcast's VMU, which allowed you to view your plays exclusively on your controller while playing NFL 2K. But the tidbit that excites me for sports gaming is the revolutionary, online/social aspects that the system will usher in when it debuts!
If you played a Wii, you're fully aware that when the console is turned off in stand by mode, its still on and actively connected to the internet. When Nintendo sends you content or a fellow Wii gamer sends you a Mii (a virtual avatar) your console will light up with a blue hue to signal that content has been delivered, even when turned off! Now imagine, coming home from a long days work and wanting to settle into your gaming night, without turning the TV or console on. You would simply grab your controller, which notifies you through the blue hue that you have buddies gaming on Madden (similar to the blue light on the Wii). With the 6 inch touch screen, you'll be able to scroll through various wii channels and watch your buddies game from the controller, even while the console sits in standby mode! I believe this is the reason the system is rumored to be called the Nintendo Stream and the rationale for the introduction of the Wii channels on the Nintendo Wii! With a system that's always on and always connected, it will allow for a much more social/online gaming experience with the controller being a virtual portal/extension of the new Nintendo console! You say you aren't the reading type when taking care of business in the bathroom.... Simply, grab your controller and scroll through various Wii like channels of everyone on your friend's list and even watch them game live as they play a game of Madden or NBA 2k! Lets take this a step further and suggest you'll even be able to send messages or some form of a Nintendo version of a tweet to suggest coaching points to friends while watching them game without turning on your console or television!
But these are my thoughts and views. Are you as a sports gamer excited about the possibilities of this new gaming system? Would you buy a sports game on Nintendo's new system that you normally would purchase on Xbox 360 or Playstation 3, to utilize the social/online experience the controller is rumored to provide? Sound off......
