Operation Sports legend, Adembroski wrote an interesting blog on gaming and the lack of respect it gets as a respectable art form. And it got me to thinking...........would I consider the Madden franchise a fine achievement of art or just a mainstream title that's pumped out with a corporate template?
When I look at Madden, I see a game that parallels the NFL experience pretty closely and is a pretty solid representation of what you'll see every week on Sunday, but in my opinion it lacks soul.....it lacks love......it lacks the true artistry that we see from time to time in sports gaming, or shoot any other gaming genre for that matter. Activision's CEO came out a couple of weeks ago; and bashed EA's business model as a company- stating that they suck the life out of their developers and programmers in the industry, simply do not want to work for EA and that they are completely lacking in programming talent as a result. I blogged a couple of weeks back in regards to Madden's soundtrack moving into a more mainstream/ corporate feel. My complaint rested not on the choice of music but rather on EA slowly taking every ounce of culture (remember the madden bus challenges and the Tony Bruno Show) out of Madden and making it an extremely vanilla title to market to as wide a base of football fans as possible. For crying out loud, Wii Sports is a more true representation of video gaming art than the recent versions of Madden..... And then 2k puts every pair of Air Jordans into it's video basketball game, and EA makes us pay for scouting. Darn shame, I say... Darn shame indeed!
All in all, Madden's a good football title, but EA has turned into the millennium version of Acclaim and as a
result Madden is headed the way of Turok. A solid first person shooter, but still not the masterpiece that Goldeneye was or in Madden's case.... 2k5 football was.

i agree with everything u have said except that madden is a solid football game. it is not....we are missing things that were in games 6 years ago......they need competition....or just to drop the nfl liscense and stop making football games completely and let someone else have at it....altho back breaker wasnt a good game all around....there was a ton of effort and detail put into it and if they continue to make yearly installments....u can bet back breaker will become amazing. just like 2k football did

I would think that Madden is like a movie sequel franchise. Like Nightmare on Elm Street 1 was great 2 was good by the time part 11 came out less people care because the effort an passion is no longer there. Then comes a reboot of the series and the audience is wowed again. I think we are getting there with Madden again.
