Video game retirement.
Posted on September 18, 2010 at 03:37 PM.
I've been having a strange feeling over the last 6 months..... What is this strange feeling....... I'm seriously thinking about retiring from video games. My lovely wife insists I'm pulling a Bret Favre, but Im thinking it's time for me to start thinking about life after gaming. I'm approaching my 30's, my 3 boys are getting older and they all are getting involved in sports, and to top it off my business's better days are looming immediately on the horizon. Is this just me or has my fellow OS gamers contemplated rolling your joysticks up and tucking them away for good as well....

I've been gaming since Mario and duck hunt shared a cartridge, and believe it's time to ride out at the height of the industry. I've seen a lot the last 25 years: I saw a blue hedgehog over take Mario with blast processing, I saw a little innovative device called xbnd be ahead of it's time, a little game called mortal kmbat took gaming into the adult arena, I lived through madden football being cancelled for one season, and witnessed the birth of the playstation and xbx. Needless to say, ive had an awesome career. So as it stands 2011, could be me final year as a gamer......... I haven't thought about how I should go out. Maybe I should have a loser leaves town match with Da Czar in NBA 2k11 or just fade to black like J was supposed to do on the Black album.... Whatever the case, this will be an extremely emotional farewell for me. No more OS or gaming sites, no more gamestop midnite releases, no more gaming tournaments or getting the hot new hardware the very first day. When I'm gone, I'm gone. I've went ahead and selected my farewell, titles that could undeniably be the last games I will ever play. They are......Madden 2012 and The Legend of Zelda: skyward sword. Here's hoping Nintendo and EA sends me off in style! Any suggestions of farewell titles will be greatly appreciated.

You have good reasons to quit. I've thought about the same thing, retiring from video games. The other thought I had was just not buying any more games at some point this fall. This would happen some time after FIFA and F1 2010 is released, and might change if NCAA Football 12 is any good. That's a good ten months to save money, and get a real life. Video games are great entertainment, a great escape from work and family responsibilities. I read a story on ESPN's website about how Madden was the first game pro athletes weren't ashamed to admit they played. The truth is, at one point, only kids and geeks played video games. What if other people come to the same realization?
