Top 5 rapper's of all time
Posted on September 8, 2010 at 11:04 PM.
5. Nas- Nas was one of the first rapper's with street credibility to add a sense of intelligence and consciousness into his rhymes. His feud with Jay-Z was probably the greatest rapper feud in history with Illmatic and Stillmatic being 2 of the best rap albums of all time.

4. Eminem- Eminem was instrumental in ushering hip hop rap into mainstream America. Comparison's to Vanilla Ice went away quickly when word got out....this guy is a legitimate lyricist. Marshall Matters was an instant classic the day it hit the streets.

3. Lil Wayne- Lil Wayne burst onto the scene at the tender age of 12 as a part of the rap group hotboys (juvenile, bg, turk). Although, he admits he does not write his rhymes anymore, his run from 2002's squad up to the 2008 tha Carter 3 is one of the greatest runs in rap history.

2. Tupac Shakur- The effect of tupac transcends rap. He wasn't the best lyricist during his time, but when he laid words to tracks....you felt every bit of it. All eyes on me remains one of the greatest achievements in music history with the seven day theory: don killuminati being one of the most controversial rap albums of all time.

1. Jay Z- Jay Z will go down as the best rapper to ever live, simply because he was the smartest. He single handedly turned Beyonce from hated goody too shoe into superstar diva, he released hip hop classic- after classic consistently during the competitive summer season, and he built an empire through his Roc-A-wear clothing line. When you consider all his accomplishments, his influence on pop culture, and his creative word play- you have to acknowledge him as the greatest rapper ever.

But this is my list..... Who is your top 5 rapper's of all time.....

Lil Wayne at 3?????? Based on his run from 2002 to 2008. He's got nursery rhymes for lyrics but has a good delivery. Him at 3 is a huge stretch in my opinion. As mentioned before B.I.G. should really be up on that list. I agree with Nas though. The cat spits fire and his lyrics are sick.

Wayne over Eminem and Nas? Not to mention a list with no BIG? SMH

# 7 a walrus @ Sep 9

Lol... it pains me (as a 30+) to see how little history is known about the genre, considering the lists I've seen so far.

Why are people so Ignorant about Rap history, and not the other Genre of music? Nobody puts Toby Keith in the Top 5 all country stars. Nor do they place The Stripes in the Greatest Rock band ever category. Yea, these bands and RAPPERS are good, Don't throw them up against Real Legends. I don't claim to know everything about Rap, but I sure as hell know That anyone who says Lil Wayne is The Greatest.. should probably be slapped.

Jay Z - makes the Top 10, but not that high. Greatest market-man. Great ear for beats and good producer, but his Rap style is so monotone. How does making some hot chick make you a good rapper?
Tupac - Come'on.. you cant roll out gangsta when to back up a clown with a big nose (Digital underground) Better than Jay Z, yea
Eminem - great lyrics and his delivery changed the way people thought about their styles. Rap was Stale for the 90's. everyone almost sounded the same. then he comes out.. Not in the Top 10 dude.
Lil'Wayne - Really.. need I go there.. the other three can make the top of their Decade list.. But this cat sucks down to the bone. Not even a rapper.
NAS - maybe the top 5 of the 90-2k but not on the big boy list. Smooth style

Many others deserve your list. way b4 KRS1, Mos (definately) Africa Bambatta, Rakim, LL, Outcast, GZA, Ice Cube, Grandmaster Flash, Sugar Hill gang, Run DMC.. no real order.

Rappers since the 90's have been extremely cookie cutter. only a handful warrant any cred and few can stack up to the Lyricists of the early days. They make records to market. Not for the Love or the message. Go grab some old tracks, Listen to them, work your mind. listen to how they flow and then Learn about some of the music you claim to like.

sincerely,
Old Fat White Dude from North Texas

Lol... the white dude from texas is right... these are just VH1 LISTS.
ICE CUBE, LL, CHUCK D, SLICK RICK, DEL, RASS KASS, KRS ONE....
AND SOOOO MANY MORE THAT ACTUALLY INNOVATED.

The name mentioned in the lists I read are just derivatives...
Hell Run DMC is sooo off the charts that the Beasties Boys first album is actually Run DMC's DEMO TAPE.

DO THE KNOWLEDGE.

Yeah man u putting Wayne 3 really mean you dont know hip hop..Sorry dude

# 13 blackscorpion11 @ Sep 9
1. Run DMC
2.Eric B. & Rakim
3.KRS1
4.NAS
5.Public Enemy
YEAHHHHH BOYYYEEEEEEEE!!

# 14 blackscorpion11 @ Sep 9
This is generational...I personally judge em on creativity, flow, lyrical variety.. Rappin about T&A over and over gets old.. Not as much social relevance in hip hop today as it was way back when..

# 15 Beastly Wayz @ Sep 9
Where' B.I.G., KRS 1, What about Rakim, GZA, Hell L.L. would crush lil wayne. Bad List dude.
