For Xbox Users.. The Show
Posted on June 25, 2012 at 08:11 PM.
I have become a total Fanboy for The Show. For those of you on Xbox that havent seen it in depth...
I'm 55 years old. I've been playing Sports games since I was about 10.
All of that time, I had a vision of what I dreamed a Sports Game would some day be like.
Fantastic Graphics, true-life physics and animations, an in-depth career mode, and the enjoyment of playing the game consistantly day after day, week after week, and for years to come!
Frankly, I don't know what's ahead.. But right now as I type, I don't plan on ever playing another game again.
It's like having dated all these years, and finally meeting "That One". And knowing it immediately. It just feels so comfortable, so right.
If I could have sex with The Show, I would Thats how awesome I feel about it right now.
I'm sure you've read reviews. Maybe played it a bit with some friends.
But until you spend every night with it for three months... And you see the game "Work" perfectly almost without exception...
Saturday Night, I was at a Sports Bar watching a real life game on MLB TV. And I was enjoying it greatly. But, somewhere around the fifth inning, it hit. Like an itch. All of a sudden I was Jonesing for My Show. Real Life wasnt good enough.
The Show was faster, better looking, and more fun.It was like looking at your High School Sweetheart, but then realizing you had Angelina Jolie waiting for you at home.
I had to leave. I had to get out. I had to get back to the Royals/Indians game I left that morning.
OK, Ok, Ok... I go on.
Bottomline is that whatever you've heard about this game, is all true. It lives well beyond the hype. It's the game you've waited all your life to see just once.
It's that Secretariat at the Belmont feeling.. You know you're watching greatness!

Absolutely! It's the reason we play Sports Games. And this is a once in a lifetime game. Especially when you get your sliders just right.

First of all, great piece. The Show is the benchmark for all sports games. Every developer should get their staff together and visit the show headquarters and try and learn as much as possible from their team.

They do a tremendous job in every aspect of the game. Also, could you recommend me a good slider set?

And I'm sadly "stuck" with 2K12...

Ironically enough, I was considering trading in my xbox and getting a ps3 since gamestop has the refurbished ones for 199 now.

The Show was the reason I switched from an XBox 360 to a PS3 and I believe that it was the best choice I ever made. Even though friends gave me crap because I gave up Halo for The Show. Only if they would give it a chance.

I can honestly say I would never give up my XBOX for just one game. To many good things about XBOX to give it all up to play one game. I'm more willing to dish out the money to have both systems. lol

I'm not saying to give up Xbox. I'm simply letting you all know that there's a fantastic game out there which I don't believe can be topped, at least IMO.
It's just great to see ONE game out there that delivers everything it promises with no drama and no excuses.

BTW, I'll take The Show over Halo. Halos a very popular game... But then again, so is Baseball. And The Show is as close to the Real thing as I think technology can achieve.

Good article,
thats what a superior game will do.
I have the same feeling about CH2k8, NBA 2k series,
and the old MOH, games, when ever Id watch a war flick Id get that itch to play MOH.

cant disagree about your assesment. THE SHOW Is so fluid, its scarey, stats are spot on, and thats with minimal tweaking, very minimal tweaking. Only complaint is that sometimes it takes, 2 sit ins to finish a game.
I also have 2k12, its also solid. what it lacks in fluidity is made up through presenation, and time. It also delivers a sim style with a casual appeal,

Yes - MLB the Show and NBA2k are at another level.

I bought a PS3 just to play The Show. I play everything else on my 360 but it truly was a wise decision.

Yeah it kills me that I can only get two games in a night. But, think of it this way, if they speeded the game up, would it be as good to the last drop?
I like things that take their time.. I like Jazz, I like Chess, I like a good long leisurely meal, and I like Baseball. It's meant to be enjoyed at leisure. The Show captures that.

Like Dirk, I am by far a baseball fan. But this title is something else indeed.

I originally bought my ps3 for All Pro Football 2K8, and i'm glad because of what I found in The Show. I am, to this day, still playing MLB The Show 10. I don't play it religiously, but when I need a break from everything else, this is the title to play.

Which leads me to ask. Is there a big difference between 10 and 12? Do these differences warrant a purchase of the newer title?

Great post. I am a 41 year old gamer and shared those same thoughts on sports games. The Show is the only reason I own a PS3 (own both consoles). The only other baseball game that comes close is MVP 2005. EA needs baseball to boost the competition.

To Answer Eye Guy... I too had The Show10. And this year made the jump. Yes, I would say the difference is enough to buy 12.
10 was a really good game, but there was problems. For me the biggest thing was how the AI handled the Bullpen. Relievers never went more than one inning. And a lot of times, AI might use three or four relievers in one inning.
In 12, I see none of that. I'm getting relievers pitching any number of innings. A long reliever might go five Innings, a setup man comes in the 8th, and the closer in the ninth. That aspect alone makes 12 a noticeable step up. Also, things such as Ball Physics, Weather (It has variable rain sometimes).
10 has a lot of little repeat patterns. After you play the game for about 100 games, you noticed things happening over and over. In 12, things happen more randomly. In some cases less frequently. For instance the Beachball animation. In 10, it happened almost every other game. In 12, I've only seen it once in about 150 games.
So to me, 12 is definitely more "Evolved" than 10.
