Madden CCM and Vince Lombardi
Posted on June 17, 2012 at 03:51 PM.
I've been thinking about this new Madden Career concept. And thinking about having Legend Coaches.
Sounds great right?
If I understand it right, you can now have Legend Coaches such as Lombardi or Landry coach your team. What I read said that along with that, you also will get Lombardi and Landry's playbooks which your team will run.
So let's think about this.... If I'm doing Madden this year, which I'm not, but if I were... Of course I'd want Lombardi on my Packers. What other choice would you make? Lombardi coaching the Jacksonville Jaguars? I don't think so.
So I put Lombardi back in Green Bay. Cool huh?
First thing... Is Vince Lombardi going to be wearing his suit and tie? Maybe his starched white shirt and tie? Or maybe a big brown overcoat with a fur lined hat when it snows?
The Answer has to be No. The NFL has a rule where Coaches MUST wear only NFL Licensed clothing. Unless I see otherwise, I'm assuming that Madden is going to have the great Vince Lombardi wearing wimpy Packer issued sleeveless sweaters and polo shirts. They're raising Vince Lombardi from the "grave", and dressing him up like a clown. Vince would never have stood for it.
But lets get into the ramifications of Vince Lombardi running the Packer Sweep on a team that features Aaron Rodgers and a horde of receivers that was unimaginable in Lombardi's Era.
Do you really want the 2013 Packers running basically a high school playbook against the complex defenses of today's NFL? Because that's what it would be. Lombardi's Playbook is 50 years out of date. In his day, they didnt have linemen who could run a 4.0 40. They didnt go up against zone packages. Heck, Lombardi had never even seen a man in motion until he played the Cheifs in SB 1 . There was no motion pocket, no zone defenses, no specialized substitutions etc etc etc etc;
And many other gameplay innovations that didnt exist fifty, yes I said FIFTY years ago.
So, just to be able to say that you've brought Vince Lombardi back from the dead, you're going to sacrifice every thing the Packers AND the NFL has achieved and innovated since 1967. I'd be interested in hearing what all you loyal Packer Fans really think about this. Be careful what you ask for.
