NBA 2K Lag & Disconnection Issues
Posted on October 13, 2011 at 08:51 AM.
For those who only blame and think that the "servers at 2K" are the "only" reason they're having problems there are many factors involved when it comes to having lag and getting disconnected.

The 2K servers could only be a small part of the blame if they are in fact faulty. You must remember that ALL players involved in a match must have STABLE internet connections with their internet provider and also must have all of the required ports open for internet play or put their consoles in a DMZ (all ports are opened) if they are using a router. They must also have the internet settings set up properly on their consoles.

There are many relays in between you and the other players so you're not directly connected "straight to a particular server" and if any of the relays between the players are having issues you'll likely have issues as well. Below is just one example of what I'm referring to here by tracing the route between me and 2ksports.com.

There are more factors involved but there are a few of the main factors.

Yea, this is one of the reasons I'm not much of an online player. My internet itself gets laggy at times, so could someone else's. If one persons internet lags another persons could too. Of course there are more factors though. Because other games online run a lot smoother than 2k's. But your absolutely right other people's lagging internet is often a key part of the problem

Right on eaterofworlds888.

If only everyone understood the complete set of factors regarding having successful gaming connections there would be a lot less "finger pointing" going on because it's very very difficult to know exactly what went wrong if you get booted from a game.
