It was a battle between two Cy Young winners and it didn't disappoint. R.A Dickey and Justin Verlander both pitched very well, but one team does have to lose. Unfortunately for the Red Sox, it was them that fell.
Dickey and Verlander traded 0's through 5 innings. With 1 out in the 6th, Verlander came to the plate and hit a single up the middle. What seemed like a harmless single from the right hander, turned into 4 runs for the Phillies. With RBI hits from Steve Tyner, Josh Reddick, and Carl Crawford, the Phillies took a 4-0 lead. The Red Sox would strike back as Edwin Encarnacion hit his first Home Run of the Season. A two run shot to Left which made it 4-2. To the ninth, Huston Street on for the save, and first pitch to Longoria goes deep to left for his first Home Run of the year, 4-3 Phillies. Joe Mauer would get aboard with a single, but Street would strike out the rest to earn his second save of the season.
The Red Sox leave Philadelphia, happy to be heading back to the American League. They will renew the rivalry with the New York Yankees in a 3 game set at Yankee Stadium.
