Rob Manfred: "With the 3rd pick in the Major League Baseball draft, the Boston Red Sox select, Right Handed Pitcher Felix Hernandez.
When those words were announced, the Red Sox and all of baseball had changed as Major League Baseball, with new commissioner Rob Manfred, decided to shake things up and put everyone back into a draft. Many rounds later, the draft was over and the new season was about to be underway. Players reported to Spring Training with new logos on their hats, and a brand new fan base.
New Red Sox GM Sean Conn had this to say about the draft and his team afterwards. "This was an exciting process and all of us were on board. The days of wondering what it would be like if Felix Hernandez stepped into Fenway with a Red Sox Jersey on is over. It will happen this year, and for many years to come."
The Red Sox focused on the bats after selecting Hernandez. Selecting Edwin Encarnacion, Evan Longoria, and youngster Joc Pederson with their next 3 picks. "I'd like to say we have a good mix of young players and veterans on this squad. Starting with Joc Pederson all the way to players like Bartolo Colon and Carlos Ruiz," said Sean Conn.
Here is what the Red Sox look like going into 2015!
Sean Conn and the Red Sox definitely went hard after offense with Hamilton and Mauer. The area where they deserve the most criticism is in the rotation. Drafting Colon, Dickey, Arroyo, and Danks. "We wanted to go with experience here, as we do have some youngsters in the minors we are excited about. We want them to learn from these guys."
Well we will see how this year shakes up starting on April 5th when the Chicago Cubs take on the St. Louis Cardinals. As for the Boston Red Sox, they head to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies for game 1 of 162.
