The Rivalry is back. With the new look MLB, the Red Sox and Yankees battled for the first time this season. The Red Sox came into New York dropping 2 of 3 to the Phillies.
Scoring started in the bottom of the first. Yankees rookie Basil Pagan drove in a run on a double and a ground out from Brandon Moss made it 2-0. In the bottom of the 3rd, Moss struck again, hitting an RBI double which drove in Tulo. Moss was not done, in the 5th, Moss comes up big with a 3 Run Homer to right which made it 6-0. This was also the end of the night for Bronson Arroyo. Red Sox got on the board in the 6th, when Edwin Encarnacion took a Garcia pitch the other way for his second Home Run of the season. They would score again on a Joc Pederson sac fly in the 7th to cut it to 6-2. But that is as close as the Sox would get. In fact, the Yankees would add two more in the 8th, making it 8-2.
A great outing for Jaime Garcia, who shut down the Red Sox for most of the game. The shining star for the Red Sox was Carlos Ruiz who went 4-4.
The Red Sox and Yankees will go at it again in game 2 of the series tomorrow night.
