this is not a hate thread, or an impressions thread. this is merely stating that i have a love/hate relationship with the game right now and since all the reasons i love the game are obvious. im going to talk about not wat i hate about the game, but more how i hate how the game makes me feel cheated.
1. fast breaks ARE NOT back. thats is clear as day. the only time u will score on a fast break is if ur ahead of the cpu defender or if u do a pull up jumper. i can not tell you how many times ive taken off on a fast break having a 2 on 1 or a 1 on 1. if u decide to make the logical pass to the player cutting to the hoop. 1 of 2 things happens. A. the cpu player steals it. B. ur player throws an aweful pass. so then ur left with ur 2nd option. take it the whole way urself in which case the cpu comes in and creates alot of contact (with no foul) forcing ur player to either get blocked or miss the lay up completely. i cannot tell u how many blocks the cpu gets each game to stop me from scoring easy buckets that SHOULD not happen. makes me feel cheated out of points
2. passing is as inconsistant as brett favre was with his retirement. this is partly to do with the player passing the ball, and partly to do with player im passing the ball too. ex. a player runs to my side of court to post up. he gets in position. i throw him the ball. right as i throw him the ball he moves a diff direction and the cpu steals its. i can see this happening maybe 1 time a game. put not 4. makes me feel cheated out of a possession
3. defense not working properly. each game i go in and set everyone on my team to guard their player tight and either defend him off ball tight or deny ball. so why is it that they are constantly leaving their man to go double team or something leaving him wide open?? makes me feel cheated on defense
4. number 3 leads into number 4. the cpu is deadly from 3, and not just star players, im talkin landry fields and keith bogans lighting me up. and bench players coming in scoring 11 points, 9 from deep. these players get left open cuz my players ignore their defensive setting. and they hit them all day long. makes me feel cheated cuz i cant stop them.
5. perhaps the most frustrating thing at all. is how many shots i miss with perfect release. i have my scoring set to shot stick timing. i have the lil feedback meter up there showing me how my release was. ill shoot 15 with kemba walker. 13 will have perfect in the green feedback. and ill only make 5 shots. this happens with all my guards and small forwards. here is the funny part. after say 3 misses being in the green with same player. ill finally make a shot when i released it too soon or too late. apparently shot stick has nothing to do about when ball goes in the hoop. makes me feel cheated out of points
6. robo cpu. we all know what robo cpu is from madden. but i swear its in this game. i play perfect defense. 1 sec left on shot clock they hit a crazy shot. happens at least twice a game. or how im controlling boards all game. if cpu down in 4th they get offensive rebounds galore. makes me feel cheated like im destined to lose
the kicker, other than the passing thing. i never felt like this playing the legends games. that is all i played first few days until a roster with rookies came out. ive only experienced this in association.
i still like this game. has alot of cool things. but when i was losing at 2k11 i never even came close to being as mad as i am now. right now 2k12 is slowly losing the fun factor because i feel cheated.
as an fyi. i been playing on pro level. have lost some games by 1-2 points that if u saw what cpu did to win, u would shake your head.
anyways. this is why i feel cheated. i am curious to find out if any of you feel the same way. or notice things i mentioned. if u have any suggestions etc.

I had similar troubles with the fastbreak when I first got the game. But I've really learned how to adjust. The Fastbreak Drill in MyPlayer really helped me. I don't want to say the CPU is repetitive, but you can really get a feel for what they are gonna do defensively on a fast break. The pull-up jumper is a beauty, yes, but I have a lot of success when I get good spacing on a 2 on 1. I get guys wider than the free throw line, and just read the defender. If he is leaning towards me, I might fake a pull up jumper and dish it to my teammate on the wing. If he is waiting back, I will hit the pull up jumper or maybe do a hop step layup, either across the lane or towards the baseline. Lots of success with that.
I play on the All-Star difficulty, and it makes for a tight game. As for the defensive settings, I recommend not making it "tight" or "deny ball." If you play against the Bucks, for example, I would say "tight" for Redd and that is about it. If you have tight on Jennings and deny ball on CDR, every time they come around a screen, the player needs help defense to ensure that they are being "denied the ball" or being played "tight." That way, they'll catch the ball and have an easy pass to the player the help defense came from. The only players I'd ever go "deny ball" on would maybe be Ray Allen, or someone like that. I might go "tight" on someone with good 3pt range, but not great. I recommend only having 1 offensive player which has "tight" or "deny ball" tagged to their name, with the exception of maybe the Celtics, Heat, or etc.... The simplest defense is the easiest.
For shots, I would recommend that you turn on the shot quality feedback and not the shot timing feedback, or both. The quality of the shot is really the tell-all. The quality of the shot is probably more important than the timing, as the quality feedback takes into account ratings, position, etc... Kemba Walker is not gonna be success full jacking up threes, but maybe he would be a killer step-back mid-range shooter. A good release from three would maybe be a worse shot than a slightly late or early from closer to the bucket, especially if a guy like Kemba was correctly created.
These are my three ways of avoiding, or minimizing, the mistakes you are seeing. I agree, the offensive rebounds seem kinda of exaggerated in the 4th quarter, but I just have to outscore them, which I find as fun. Lead passing minimizes the amount of "inconsistent" passing. I can put the ball where I want to put it, which makes it tough for the defense. The only dumb pass turnovers I have is when I pass out of a shot, and that is realistic.
I have had all 5 of my newest Association games within 5 or 10 points, even if that isn't realistic, it makes the 4th quarter really really fun. That's what I enjoy. I really hope the experience brightens up for you!

@rb10, i do have both feedback going. and perhaps u are right with the shot quality has a big part. but there are quite a few times i will miss wide open A rated shots with perfect release from all over the court.
i will try ruxpinke slider suggestions and see how it works. i really didnt want to have to mess with the sliders this year.
i am 0-6 as the clippers in my association. and danny granger has been hurt for the last 5 games. and i have lost by 1, 2, 6, and 13. with those first three i was controlling the glass all game, winning by a few points. but then the cpu became super cpu in the last 2 minutes and i just lost. i was up 6 points with 1 min left against the pistons, rip hit a 3, i got fouled hit 2 free throws, then rip hit another 3. then my player missed a lay up and stuckey hit a 3 to go up 1 and i missed a wide open shot and lost the game by 1. same kinda crap happened in my 2 point loss to the pacers.
ive recently been able to lower my turnovers strictly because on fast breaks, i no longer push for a layup or easy bucket, i either do a pull up J or kick it for a 3, not exactly how i want to try and get points cuz those shots arent as easy or as efficient as next to the goal, but what can u do when the cpu either steals all ur passes on the break or runs into u with no foul?
hopefully some slider adjustments will help me enjoy this game like was playing the legend mode
thank you both for your input, i am glad i am not the only person who was seeing/feeling this

Yeah, I really worked, in practice mode, and etc, to really get down pat about 3 plays that I save for end of game scenarios. I chose a quick, maybe 5-8 second play, a 10-15 second play, and a 24 second play. When I need points late in the game, these are really good. It is something the defense has not yet seen, so I know I can score efficiently. I really think you'll be able to overcome your last minute blues. A bit more experience, I think you'll be able to outscore them late. It does seem kind of "cheating", but it adds an extra difficulty to be all or nothing late in the 4th, just the way I love it!

yea i hope so. i should get danny granger back soon too so hope that helps.
i am glad i can lose this year. i just dont like that i am losing every game...especially the way i am losing some lol. wouldntr be a big deal if i was like 8-4 and lost a game that seemed like bs. i wouldnt care. but when ur winless....it hurts more and more lol

one of my favorite, i guess the word is...obsession, with 2k games is tweaking the sliders. i just got 2k12 but really havent had a chance to play it till maybe the middle of the week, but ill mess around with the sliders eventually. Here are a few tips which i noted from previous game (no idea if they will still apply)
1) ALWAYS tweak the sliders the same way for both sides (cpu, user). If u tweak things slightly pro user, but not equally for the cpu, the cpu will get u somewhere else. THey will make more impossible shots, they will foul u without the whistle, ull miss more shots. Ull notice it and it will drive u made, and it ends up being cuz u put some irrelevent slider pro user and less cpu.
2) tweak slightly at first. Most people like to jump 5 or 10 points at a time in sliders. I think this becomes a long term mistake. Maybe for quick games its fine, but when you play association, you find that something that worked against one cpu team completely sucks against another cpu team.
3)The players u dont control are the CPU! People who like to go one sided on the user stats will find that their A.I. team mates will suddenly suck a bit. Its because the cpu sliders affect ur team mate. Drop their hands, and u will find ur own cpu team mates dropping passes and losing rebounds,
Tweak physical settings first, then move on to the other attributes. Game speed, vertical, quickness, player speed, these already tweak alot of the other attributes, from how quick the release on a shot is, to how high you jump on blocks dunks and how easily u are fouled and not. This depends on personal preference to how you see the game and play the game. Get this down and then start tweaking shots and defensive attributes (as well as fouls) accordingly to optimize ur gameplay.
I dont know why i posted this here (maybe i shouldve made this my own blog?) but there u go....

The issues that you mention are not issues at all. Every year people make these exact same complaints.
for passing in certain situations, Id reccomend using Icon passing.
fast breaks is all about spacing and whos pushing the ball. I absolutely love the fast break in this game. yes the CPU AI does recover well on transition defense, Yes Ill turn the ball over sometimes, but overall, I dont think its an issue.
The AI comabcks, nope. Basketabll is a game of runs, you just have to know what to do to stop those runs. call timeouts, change the pace of the game (slow down the game play, run plays, use the shot clock) change up defensive matchups.
The AI is good at getting a user out of their comfort zone, next thing you know, youre playing a run and gun type of game and the CPU controlled team just takes overs. make the adjustments, thats all, dont get baited into that type of gameplay, if thats not what you're used to.
slider adjustmenst alos work, but the sim sliders are pretty good. I have tweeked any sliders yet, but will eventually. JUst need to play a good handful of games, before I amke any tweaks to my likings.

You can't tweak sliders online. These people reviewing 2k are full of it. Passing better, controls better? NO, this is a lie. The passing is horrible. It is not this difficult to pass in the NBA. It takes like 3 seconds for your player to release the ball on the pass after you press the pass buttom. What sucks is icon passing is just as bad as just using directional passing.

the best antidote to 'cheap A.I.' that I have found is to create team specific VIP's that you only use with a certain team and just play games against those...much more like playing a human..sliders are needed for this, but way more fun that the 'stock' CPU logic IMO....tough, but fair

2k is a great game no doubt. I totally understand the passing issue most of you guys are having cuz im having them myself... it sucks to see a 5 darelle revis' on the court =/

YEA, I FINALLY MADE SOME ADJUSTMENTS TO SLIDERS...I BEEN PLAYING ON REGULAR PRO DIFFICULTY. IF ANYONE ELSE IS PLAYING ON THAT AND IS INTERESTED, ILL POST THE SLIGHT CHANGES I MADE. HAS RESULTED IN SOME GREAT GAMES. ALL WITHIN 5 POINTS. EVEN MY WINS!

As i played more, a few things irked me. Mostly the passing. I couldn't make passes that I felt I should. Example, on the break, it felt like I would always throw it right into the defender. Obviously not every pass was perfect, and that is fine. I don't mind the occasional turnover caused by a bad pass. But it felt ridiculous watching some of these replays. Made some small changes yesterday and felt the game played better. CPU was still tough, but felt like I was making some more of the passes I should be.
Turned user pass acc up to 60.
Turned Cpu hands down to 45.
lowered ball handling for CPU to 48. Felt like too many mid level players were making advanced moves in the paint and not losing the handle.
raised steal success for CPU and USER to 40. this was to counteract my pass accuracy being raised, also to generate some more breaks for me and the CPU. bad passes should lead to transition opportunities.
I had two very enjoyable games with these changes. on a few possessions where i played great D and hounded the ball handler and the clock was winding down, I was able to force the cpu into a bad pass and take advantage going the other way. Felt great. The first two days I felt like they were always able to make a bailout pass in this situation, everytime.
Still had some turnovers, but they felt more real. as in a forced pass that had no business getting through.
Just wanted to share these with anyone who might have been feeling the same way I did.
