Would you play a WNBA video game? What about a Woman's college video game?
Posted on September 16, 2010 at 10:55 PM.
Seattle Storm just wrapped up a championship season. UConn has one of the most dominant basketball teams in history. So why don't the women have their own game? I'll agree that the WNBA isn't the most popular form of basketball (although, I kind of wish it was more popular, these women play damn hard, every play). The women games aren't short on drama, marquee names or heroics. So I wonder, would anyone really play a viable WNBA or WNCAA basketball game if it ever came to light? Is there any way, the WNBA and WNCAA can market themselves to gain a better relevancy in American sports? I think what ever my next paper in college will be, will be about the WNBA and WNCAA because to me, there isn't a reason why the WNBA isn't doing better in terms of ratings or market share.

Is it because of when they play (the summer) that no one really shows huge interest?
Is it because they lack the athleticism?
Is it because their women?
If your the commish for that league, how would you get this league to gain public notoriety?

EA included something like the Top 20 women's NCAA basketball teams on the Sega Genesis version of March Madness back in the early 90's I think.

Given the supposed surveys that say how many more women gamers there are than suspected, I would think womens sports might be an interesting selling point but at best they would only be an add-on to an existing men's game. The graphical resources would be easy to adapt it's probably more a question of would dedicating the financial resources to include womens teams be worth the investment (i.e. would it increase sales?).

I have spoken with several people at 2K and EA about including NCAA men's and women's hockey teams in the NHL game, and NCAA and women's league teams in FIFA soccer. They rolled their eyes. Even though it would be a huge help to promote women's sports, there unfortunately would be license fees involved to the league and probably a players union - and there is just no way anyone is going to pay some crazy license fee to include women's sports. Especially when the women's pro soccer league is about to go under (again), and the only interest in the national teams are during the olympics and world cup. So again, it would be neat to see it happen, but I doubt it will.

I would definitely play a WNBA or WNCAA basketball game, as a basketball fan I follow most leagues.

If they include the WNBA and WNCAA in a game like NBA 2k, I'd give it a try. They just have to include these leagues in the same way that the NHL and FIFA are including various leagues from around the world. This is the only viable option I can see because I really doubt any talented dev would spend money to build a game like that. I know I wouldn't pay 60$ for a WNBA game.

As I have a little girl that plays hard in AAU now I would have to play a WNBA or WNCAA game. I agree they do play just as hard and the men and I must say its sad they no one has even tried to tap this market. Even if its a $20.00 game with Last gens engine we need to start branching out to grown support for these ladies.

Has anyone seen the spoof commercial for a WNBA game? Go on YouTube and search for "WNBA Live 2008" and watch the first video that's listed (should be 56 seconds).

Just look in the stands at a WNBA game...
Only the families of the players, aspiring lady ballers or political officials/celebs attend the games.
The stadiums are essentially empty.
There's just no real world interest (or market) for women's basketball so there's no way to sustain a viable vid game franchise for a sport with little to no public interest.

How many bought EA's RUGBY game?

See what I mean?

Again, no offense whatsoever to women's sports.

An add-on to a current nba game would be the most logical solution... like the FIBA on nba live.

I love the sport and I have played so I know these women are atheletes and they play with passion I respect that at this point the WNBA is more about the game than the superstars by accident or on purpouse I don't know but it sure feels good. As far as a video game an add on to a nba game would be a welcomed addition even by the WNBA's haters weather they admit it or not. But first things first fix the NBA games and then establish a college game.

Yo some of you guys sound like a bunch of chauvinists pigs on here.. I respect that if you wouldn't want to play with as lady ballers. I would love to play with female ballers. I agree with someone on here who said that it would have to be apart of the 2k game because there isn't a big demand for it. But I don't see any problems with it at all. I'm quite sure that it would increase sales among the lady gamers who watches and supports the NBA/WNBA
