So I know one thing right now. The Pittsburgh Pirates are stingy! They aren't, but they have two players that I absolutely want with a passion.
Starting pitcher Chris Greenwood and Left Fielder Timmy Alexander. I believe adding these two pieces will accelerate my team and it will start to take shape.
However, the Pirates want an arm and a leg for Chris and I just can't afford to give up that many young assets on a prospect. They want my closer as well as Chase Mitchell and a throw in for Chris Greenwood and I just can't part with Chase because I am dreaming of next year when my infield is Chase, Flash, and T.J.
The pirates won't even talk about Timmy. At only 20 he must be in their future plans. Everything Ive tried they won't even hear of. Being in the same division as the Pirates I am worries that I will be going against these two players that have superstar potential written all over the them for years to come.
As I said before it bothered me that I traded Derek Hills even though I acquired my franchise piece. I had parting with young assets that have potential and this really bothered me. I had to call Baltimore again to try and get him back. I achieved my goal and got him back in exchange for 3B Jake Fish and two prospects. (CF Chris. P. Bacon and SP Trevor Harrison) A little more than I wanted to give up, but I plan to put Derek at 3rd until Chase Mitchell is ready to come up.
The last move I made in this early season is getting SP Dom Lock from the Mets for B.J. Butler, and two prospects. (SS Lorenzo Cespedes and RF Steven Greene) I really don't know what I have in Dom but he is a young and upcoming 24 year old major league ready starter who is going right into the rotation and who will develop alongside my two aces.
I am currently 9-8 and I don't see myself making any more major moves for a while. After a fantastic start I have hit a rough patch as I've dropped my last 4. Austin Wright is getting shelled early in the year through 4 starts. Not what I expected at all. Jacob Quantrill has been good although the he just got rocked by Philadelphia.
Flash and T.J. are underachieving as both are hitting just above .200 and Flash has made 5 errors already in this young season. Having a young team I know we have to go through some growing pains and we are definitely experiencing those.
The surprises have been CF Hiroyuki Okajima who is hitting .309 at the 2 spot and catcher Pedro Liriano who leads the team with a .344 average, 4 home runs, and 11 RBI's. I hope both of these players continue to produce and drive their trade value up so I can get some young players because I don't see either of these guys on my team long term.
My current lineup and rotation is in the attachments.
