LAKERS MY LEAGUE - OFFSEASON 1 EPISODE 1
Posted on May 5, 2015 at 04:07 PM.
In this entry I will write an account of the end of the season and the Draft.
With the worst record in the league (10-72), the Lakers of course didn't make the playoffs. In the West, the Blazers went on a nice run and faced the Spurs in the Conference Finals, losing in 7 games. San Antonio met the Heat, a team that unrealistically made the Finals after beating the Hawks and won 3 of the first 4 games against the Spurs. However, the Spurs rallied back and took the trophy, with Duncan being named the Finals MVP.
Here are the regular season awards:

MVP: Russell Westbrook. Averaged about 24p, 10a and 3s (but shot 28% on threes)

DPOY: Anthony Davis (two steals and two blocks per game).

MIP: Klay Thompson (24 ppg, 42% on threes).

ROY: Jabari Parker (despite shooting 37% from the field).

6th MAN OF THE YEAR: David Lee.

COY: Tom Thibodeau

THE 15 DRAFT

I entered the lottery with an 8% chance at the #1 pick, due to the bad season the Wizards (they traded the pick to me) had. I ended up with the #5 pick and the #22 pick from Houston. The Draft is a huge part of the Lakers rebuild, so I was looking for some fresh talent. I don't want to make crazy moves in free agency, not with Kobe's salary eating most of the cap room.
So the Draft started and the Nuggets selected Towns with the 1st pick, the Suns picked Okafor with the second, the Timberwolves shocked everybody and went with Montrezl Harrell at #3, the Knicks selected Mudiay, and D'Angelo Russell fell right in my lap.
He had been atop my list from day one and I was happy I got him. I think of him as Kobe's eventual sucessor, and a great complement to Clarkson in the backcourt. He has tremendous potential as a scorer/playmaker, with Hardenesque talent and habilities.
I traded the #22 pick and my 2rd pick to Boston for the #20 pick and managed to get european star Kristaps Porzingis, a stretch four that has been called an "athletic Dirk Nowitzki".

Here are some more things that happened during the Draft:

- OKC entered the Draft with one pick in the 1st round but managed to get two more via trade, ending up with Kentucky product Trey Lyles, shooter RJ Hunter and foreign prospect Mohammadou Jaiteh.
- The Thunder also tried very agressively to trade Serge Ibaka, but I didn't approve of the trades.
- I was on the verge of pulling off a trade that got me Gorgui Dieng in place of the disappointing Henson but decided to give him another chance this season.
- The Bulls traded Mirotic to the Suns for a package that included Marcus Morris.
- The Bucks were big time winners, selecting Cauley-Stein and sleeper Cameron Payne, as well as trading Jared Dudley for a future pick to Atlanta.
- The Spurs picked up two point guards: Tyus Jones (who fell to the 30th pick) and Kiefer Sykes, which gives them 5 point guards now in their roster.
- The Rockets replaced free agent Patrick Beverley with Kris Dunn and Jarrett Jack, acquired via trade.
