I had been playing Tomb Raider but am not finished. My brother lent me his Show 13 and I played around 3.5 games last night and this morning (two full games and then two 6 inning games). Initially I was expecting a bigger change between MLB 12 and 13 based on other people’s impressions. It looked and felt very similar.

I wanted to post my thoughts on MLB 12 The Show’s sliders and what my early findings are with the default settings and how I’ve tweaked the game to fit more of my style. These thoughts could be used to fine-tune the game the way you want as well, even if you have a different opinion on how to fine-tune the game. Everyone has their own personal preferences both in features and expectations so this is certainly subjective. For me MLB 12 The Show was a little frustrating initially to set up the way ... This is the one area of video game baseball that has always remained arcade like and a sore spot for me. Far too many home runs are hit to the opposite field. I saw an interesting stat that Orlando Cabrera retired with 123 career HRs and not a single one was hit to the opposite field. All 19 of Jose Batista’s HRs at the Skydome last year were pulled with a few hit to CF. None were to the opposite field.

After being frustrated with a few things in 2K11 like franchise fatigue (broken) and injuries (crazy number of them = broken) and a lack of ground balls, I played the Show 11 demo and decided to rent the game for two days. I played roughly three full games so it’s not a big sample size but I’ve also got years of previous Show experience (06 through 09). It’s pretty clear to me that there are strengths to both games and that I would suffer frustrations in both games so I will simply stay with 2K11 ... Read More

This review is written after playing almost 50 games of the retail copy. It deals exclusively with offline gameplay and does not touch My Player. There are many improvements to 2K11 over 2K10. There is no question that 2K11 is vastly superior to 2K10 in many ways but it still has some significant errors. Unfortunately the reputation of being a buggy and unfinished product is earned and 2K11 lives up to its past errors.

MLB 11 The Show has sold quite poorly compared to MLB 10 The Show on the PS3 and worse than MLB 09 as well. Through two weeks MLB 11 The Show has only sold 130,000 copies per vgchartz (http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/sales/49246/mlb-11-the-show/). MLB 10 had sold 219,000 through two weeks and MLB 09 had sold 157,000. Despite the fact the game added analog controls gamers have chosen to either wait or not buy the game.

I like instant replay. I hate seeing bad umpires or referees blow calls and ultimately games. There was a bad call in the ninth inning of the Yankee game last night where the outfielder, Greg Golston, made a shoe string catch that was ruled a trap. It didn’t cost the Yankees the game but it could have. There is an outcry for expanded instant replay in baseball. But how far do you go? Does that include challenges on balls and strikes the way tennis has for line calls? How much human element ... Read More

I'm finding that MLB 2K10 is a very fun and very flawed game. I still enjoy it but there are plenty of areas where it could be improved. I only play one season, and I never get through a full one as I drop it for football when NCAA comes out, so I won't even touch on the franchise issues that others are reporting (player progression as an example). My only beef is that the patch ruined the proper displaying of player names on jerseys for edited players (they simply still display the old name). ... Read More

I thought I would post my sliders in blog format as a simple reference. A few of my thoughts. CPU power is far too low in this game. User pitching is too easy when you learn how to pitch in the game so these will make pitching more difficult. I don't believe in having high composure since I think it's an artificial means to make pitching harder. There is just too much of a difference between a composed and rattled pitcher imo. I drop fielder speed but give the user a one click boost since I feel ... Read More

I am a rookie to the 2K10 series having bought the Show for the last four years. These early impressions will largely be about 2K10 but I will make a few comparisons throughout. I played three games last night on Pro with 2K10 and bought this game for the PS3 without having played the demo (I did play the 2K9 demo last year). Parts of this game are really good, parts are average and some are bad. Overall this game lacks the polish and fine-tuning of the Show but isn’t a bad product. It depends ... Read More

It looks like we are going to have to wait for the Show demo to come out AFTER the game is released. Russell of SCEA had stated earlier that he expected it to be released about the same time as last year. Instead it will come out four weeks later.
Many fans of the Show will flock to the stores and buy it on day one. I won’t be one of them. I consider MLB ’09 to be the best baseball game I ever played. It wasn’t perfect but it was better than anything in the past. I expect ... Read More

I've played so much of the Show '09 lately that I've actually gotten a little burned out on it. It's not a good time either since the new games are coming out. But I decided to switch up the camera angles and it really adds a lot of life into the game again. I don't think I'll like the new Broadcast camera in MLB 10 but I switched the fielding camera from medium to High for '09. I really like the "being at the ballpark" feel this gives. Tracking fly balls is a lot cooler. It does make infield ... Read More

The Show ’09 is a great game. I’ve got around 50 games played already between season and exhibition. I think it’s a tremendous baseball game and you could easily make the argument that it might be the best sports video game of all time. The developers have been on OS, invited some people to community days and many posters are very happy with everything about the game. But it’s not perfect. The fielding in the game and especially the lack of user fielding errors is a problem for me. There are ... Read More

As a Tiger fan and someone who watches far more American League baseball, I’ve always preferred the designated hitter. I’ve always said, why have the pitcher hit when batters don’t have to pitch? What’s so exciting about watching a designated rally killer swing the bat? Even if the pitcher gets the rare hit, it wasn’t that exciting. Furthermore, terrible hitters batting in the eighth spot will get a lot of intentional walks just to face the pitcher. I understand the strategy but that guy didn’t ... Read More

One area that the Show does extremely well in is how pitchers perform. The variation between each pitcher on your staff is tremendous.
Each pitch type is unique among pitchers. A slider just isn't a slider. A change up just isn't a change up. They all depend greatly on the pitcher who's throwing them. For example, Bonderman throws a really hard slider that has a lot of break but doesn't dip much. Galaragga throws a slider but it is slower without as much break and also dips more. ... Read More
