Not So PC
Not so deep thoughts.

I’ve played and watched a lot of Lego video games with my kids. Some of have been fantastic with many being fun. Most use the same formula with a few twists. The original games did not have screen tearing so you had to share the same screen with your co-op partner. Later games had screen tearing, open world hubs and eventually real voice acting instead of grunts. All games have humour and puzzles and smashing. I don’t care about online so that component does not factor into the score. I will ... Read More

Donny Moore vs PFF 2012 on the OL

INTRODUCTION
In all of the analysis of Donny Moore (EA) vs. PFF 2012 it should be noted that only grades from PFF with a 25% filter were used. This means many backups are not compared because there wasn’t enough data. Some of the discrepancies may also be as a result of Donny Moore trying to capture expected improvements from last year. A rookie last year is expected to be better this season so one could expect a higher grade in Madden 25 than ... Read More

This team should be much better this year. They have upgraded in quite a few areas over last year’s 7-9 team with very few downgrades. The one thing that will be more challenging is the schedule. The Dolphins face the Colts, Falcons, Saints and Ravens in games two through five. For a young team that is a tough stretch. If they can come out of that at least 2-2 this team will win at least 9 games and I’m personally hoping for 10 or more. The AFC East is weak. The Bills and Jets don’t look ... Read More

I had been playing Tomb Raider but am not finished. My brother lent me his Show 13 and I played around 3.5 games last night and this morning (two full games and then two 6 inning games). Initially I was expecting a bigger change between MLB 12 and 13 based on other people’s impressions. It looked and felt very similar.

Overview
The graphics looked the same to me although the colours might be more vibrant. I did see a couple cases of slight slowdown on some throws from ... Read More

After all the patches and many games of playing I figured I would put my thoughts of Madden 13 down in a review format. I do not play online so this review will only focus on offline gameplay and the new franchise mode called Connected Careers (CCM). While Madden 12 was a far more polished title at release, Madden 13 tried to be more innovative at the cost of rushing some things. Madden 13 implemented a new commentary team, the new Infinity Engine and an expanded Connected Career mode (old franchise ... Read More

My first season was with the Miami Dolphins in Madden 13 and it ended with a loss in the playoffs. Here are my thoughts on the offseason in Madden 13 as I experienced it.

FREE AGENCY

I like the way free agency was handled. Not quite enough young players escape a team's grasp although teams tend to have more salary cap room in early years due to no salary cap penalties being installed with the first roster. Before you get to free agency you can negotiate with your own ... Read More

My first attempt at franchise (I refuse to call it CCM) in Madden was very bittersweet. I chose the online option and set up a one person league just so I could take advantage of the server side fixes for some of the franchise issues. This will come back to bite me in the *** later on.

SETUP

All of your settings must be keyed from scratch in a new franchise. It does not import your difficulty level, sliders, auto subs or any other options from your profile. Not ... Read More

Many powerhouse colleges will pack over 100,000 into their stadium for every game, no matter how bad the opponent is. Fans and alumni are normally crazy over their local team. Fans who attended a university often take much greater pride in their Alma matter doing well than the professional team down the road. College football games features incredible passion and energy. With exciting dual threat QBs like Denard Robinson, the variety of college offenses and all the points that get scored on ... Read More

I was only able to play two games tonight after my son's game and the 75 minute download and install. I have to admit I was a bit disappointed. The Infinity engine was not as big a difference as I thought. It's subtle. It will look like a bigger change compared to NCAA because I felt their tackling system is limited. Madden 12's tackling system is better than NCAA 13 imo.

Anyways, I played with the 49ers and then with the Giants. Lost the first game and won the second on ... Read More

I’ve played two games of NCAA 13 which isn’t enough for a full review of course but my initial feeling is that the game is average. I didn’t see a lot of crap but I don’t see any excellence to this game that wants to me to keep playing other than I want to get my monies worth after renting.

Presentation and Atmosphere

This just isn’t good enough imo. The commentary is so stale now it’s white noise. I can’t even tell you if I heard any new or interesting ... Read More

Do you guys think EA's NCAA Football team does enough to please more than just the people happy with their game?

I don't think so. I really think the NCAA team has tunnel vision with what they want. Others will say I'm just saying this because they aren't delivering what I want and there is definitely truth in this. They sell close to two million games across all platforms every year which is a good number for any game and so I think there is a conservative effort with regards to ... Read More

In so many ways EA’s NCAA Football is similar to MLB 2K on the 360. In both games the players don’t look and move right. The animations are poor and when you see a video of the gameplay you never think it looks real. Both games have had quite a few bugs the last few years and if you want to play the sport you love you only have one choice and it’s a flawed one.

Unlike some people I don’t consider either NCAA Football or MLB 2K to be horrible games. I did enjoy NCAA 09 and NCAA ... Read More

I wanted to post my thoughts on MLB 12 The Show’s sliders and what my early findings are with the default settings and how I’ve tweaked the game to fit more of my style. These thoughts could be used to fine-tune the game the way you want as well, even if you have a different opinion on how to fine-tune the game. Everyone has their own personal preferences both in features and expectations so this is certainly subjective. For me MLB 12 The Show was a little frustrating initially to set up the way ... This is the one area of video game baseball that has always remained arcade like and a sore spot for me. Far too many home runs are hit to the opposite field. I saw an interesting stat that Orlando Cabrera retired with 123 career HRs and not a single one was hit to the opposite field. All 19 of Jose Batista’s HRs at the Skydome last year were pulled with a few hit to CF. None were to the opposite field.

Here are some hit charts for big sluggers like Jose Bautista, Albert ... Read More

As someone who has grown to love college football more than the pros, I haven’t played Madden significantly since Madden ’05. Madden ’03 was the last game I truly loved with 2K4 taking the crown the following year. Then NCAA ’06 then swooped in on the PS2 and I fell in love with NCAA Football. I did try Madden 10 after hating NCAA 10 but was disappointed in both for a variety of reasons. This year NCAA 12 disappointed me so I turned to Madden 12 and have been having a lot of fun. I want to ... Read More
