No MLB 10 Demo Pre-Release
Posted on February 25, 2010 at 01:26 PM.
It looks like we are going to have to wait for the Show demo to come out AFTER the game is released. Russell of SCEA had stated earlier that he expected it to be released about the same time as last year. Instead it will come out four weeks later.

Many fans of the Show will flock to the stores and buy it on day one. I won’t be one of them. I consider MLB ’09 to be the best baseball game I ever played. It wasn’t perfect but it was better than anything in the past. I expect MLB ’10 to be a great game. But will it be significantly better than ’09? Everyone will have a different opinion on that. Some of the bigger changes like catcher mode in RTTS, online leagues, franchise mode improvements or broadcast camera angles may be a big reason for someone to love ’10 much more than ’09. Those things don’t do much for me. I am looking forward to real time presentation (RTP), the fix of DH fatigue and the new Minnesota stadium. Will those improvements justify paying $60 for the game? Possibly.

How the pitch speed slider works is important to me. I have slow reflexes and play with pitch speed bottomed out. Any increase to this will hurt my enjoyment of the game. I need to ensure this hasn’t been changed for the worse for me. I won’t go back to the way ’08 played. Will I see more fielding errors than last year which were almost non-existent? I certainly hope so as it drove me nuts initially. The fielding error slider didn’t even work right last year. I’m hoping that got fixed. Until I play the game and double check that certain pet peeves are fixed I will not blindly buy this game.

Call me old and cranky but sports games are no longer automatic purchases anymore. They have to justify a new purchase with more than a few minor upgrades and a roster update. Everyone has a different opinion but mine is the one that matters when I open my wallet. And I need to see evidence before I buy.

I almost always wait a week or two before picking up sports games. If you go by the impressions from the first 4-5 days after release, every sports game would be the G.O.A.T. The post-honeymoon impressions are where you can get a real feel for the game.

With that being said, The Show is the only sports game I pre-order. They have proven year in and year out that they know how to crank out a quality product.

I agree. It usually is best to wait a week or two after release for good impressions. Early ones are always overly positive.

And it's been confirmed that there will be no demo this week. SCEA intentionally held it back for some reason imo.

For every other sports game, I would have to agree. But, for the show, im going to disagree. The reason is that the show has proven that it wont choke with all the hype surrounding it. I personally think, that this years game, with RTP, tremendous graphics, more team authentic items/crowd towels/etc...,tremendous, smooth gameplay, and good pesentation, will be one of the best sports games ever made.

I can safely say this is the last year I buy this game. I will buy it to see how the fielding and pitching practices work, and to see how calling an entire game as a catcher works. But I will not continue to buy this series. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but I find the moderators here, as well as the programmers of the game, to be arrogant. Yeah they took people's suggestions and requests and tried to incorporate them into the game, but they also condescend at times too. Pride comes before the fall.

Cmon this is The Show. This game keeps getting better and better. The details are in the game, if you KNOW the game. Not putting out a demo is more of a marketing ploy, I'm sure. They will get more sales from first day release then they would have with a pre-release demo, as guys would have had the patience then to wait for the sales a few weeks later. Having the pre-order bonus of the Classic Stadiums made this a no-brainer pre-order for me. Now that we know of the Best Buy exclusive demo showing, I am sure that played into the demo not being released before release date too. Now that does tick me off. I hate these corporate exclusive deals.

Chris from SCEA said here on OS that the demo was completed and given to Sony, now it's up to Sony to decide when to release it as the developers have no say in that matter.

I'm sure the Best Buy promotion played a BIG role in this. I'm guessing the demo got delayed intentionally as a part of it. Now did Sony delay the 2K10 demo as well to make sure they didn't get a head start? I know the 2K guys were pissed that the demo didn't get put on the PSN before release claiming Sony had the demo well in advance.

I'm bummed about the demo to but c'mon man, The Show is the only game I can justify "blindly" buying. The small improvements (Catcher mode in RTTS, All Star Weekend, Better Online Play, Real Time Presentation, etc..) are all that's needed to make this game better than '09. '09 was great, so you build on that. The demo will be a NON issue in a week trust me!

i will be buying day one. how soon we forget that scea denies the pressure to add stuff to their stellar game until it works correctly. we may complain about the "wait till next year" phrase, but when that next year rolls around, bam, it's in the game and it doesn't feel rushed. just my take. i respect those who wait also, 60$ is not small change these days.

I understand your point completely because this is how I feel about a certain football series right now. As for myself, I will never go a season without a baseball game to play. Since I trust their track record, I will buy their game on Day 1 (hopefully pre-day 1 ). That is more than I can say for a separate baseball series. I haven't gotten burned by SCEA yet so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Besides, I don't like to take the words of reviews and other posters and their impressions. Even a demo can be skewed. I like to play the game for myself and the pricetage for this one game isn't that big a deal for me.

I understand your points, you are poor and cheap, enjoy mlb 09

# 12 rudyjuly2 @ Feb 26
LOL teebee. I AM cheap and I still enjoy MLB 09. I'm getting a little burnt out on 09 largely because pitching was getting a bit boring. I switched up the camera angle to keep it fresh but I do think SCEA is going to have to add an r-stick option (like 2K10) next year to keep the game from getting stale. The Show series is great but if it stays largely the same every year people will get tired of it.

I always say that Im ging to wait a few weeks when a game is released, but I never follow through. Im always there on day 1; and if the game isnt at the local best buy, or gamestop, Ill search aimlessly until I find a store that has it.

I dont play sports demos. I buy the game blindly, bugs and all, and just enjoy it. IMO todays sports games (2K basketball, Baseball:2k and teh Show) are easy to enjoy and have lots of replayability, despite the, known issues, bugs, etc.

I hear your point. But I trust SCEA. I keep saying I'm gonna wait a few days. But I doubt it. Come Tuesday, I'll probably end up with baseball fever.
