Hey NFL, where are the great games?

I was looking at the slate of games available on my satellite this weekend. Pretty crappy. Cinci-Denver. Minny-Cleveland. KC-Baltimore. Hardly riveting football. Chicago and Green Bay turned out pretty well. Some would say Pittsburgh vs. Tennessee was good but I say a 13-10 OT game featuring Kerry Collins and his offensive nobodies at WR aren't that fun to watch.

I do miss the old days where you had truly great teams and great matchups. The old 49er and Cowboy teams with Montana, Young, Elway, Watters/Craig, Emmitt, Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin were great. And that's just on offense. On defense you had Haley, Deion, Lott, etc. The salary cap era has deluted every team to the point where you will NEVER see a collection of talent like that again. Today's teams all have weaknesses. It's very rare to find a team that is truly good on both sides of the ball.

Teams bash baseball for the lack of revenue sharing and how some franchises suck year after year. There is a lot of truth to that. The NFL's revenue sharing is what has made it successful and the #1 sport today. But I think it goes a bit too far. I want dynasties to stay together longer before the cap breaks it up. I wish the NFL would have some sort of Larry Bird rule where teams could sign their own free agents at a discount against the cap and keep the great teams together.

New England would have never traded away Richard Seymour to the Raiders if it weren't for the hard cap. Why isn't Marvin Harrison still a Colt? Competitive balance can be fun but dynasties and flagship franchises are still important imo. I'd love it if the Cowboys were great every year. People could love them or hate them year round. It's far better than apathy which is what I felt looking at my TV Guide this Sunday.

Yeah, but then you'd have a situation where half the teams in the league have a fan base that doesn't care because they have no chance of winning. I know a lot of that has to do with inept management and apathetic owners, but still.

Parody is good for the league. It gets more fans involved, which means more revenue and exposure. Also, keep in mind....one of the biggest lies in sports is that ownership cares about winning-HA. The bottom line is always more important than the Lombardi trophy......ALWAYS

I can agree with this to a degree. Like superstarshad said, parody is good for the league because who honestly saw what happened when the playoff seeds were finalized, coming? A team like the Pats could be 11-5 and NOT make the playoffs but a Cardinals team that is 9-7 get to the Bowl??????? Yes, odd, and one could argue that it's not right or whatever but, hey, it happened and that's what I find as the new excitement of the NFL today. It's like playing the lottery - Ya never know.

Plus, this way, it can also increase fans of the games in markets that don't have as strong of an NFL following if their team makes it to the playoffs let alone the Superbowl.

Now, that being said, it's also about who knows what the eff they are doing as an organization and/or head coach. The Pats KNOW what they are doing so Seymour going, if it has any effect on the team, it will be a minor one. Organizations gotta get their skills up, bottomline, and this helps reinforce that idea. Bring in the right coaching staff and players and things can happen, for real.

And yea, in a way, I miss those days of a few teams' dominance. I used to be a staunch Cowboy with a sidebar for the Giants but when Jerry Jones let Jimmy Johnson get away, I was the first to go off on how stupid he was. They were able to pull off a SB without him with old country dummy boy but the system was already in place and u see what happened after that - THEY CANNOT WIN A PLAYOFF GAME ANYMORE. They woulda RUN the NFL for YEARS if Jimmy Johnson stayed put. That dude was a genius and the system that was in place to let him buy the groceries AND cook the dinner like a gourmet chef was the perfect setup for at least 3 more rings...but Jerry's ego got in the way. I don't like da 'Boys, now, since I am a true, uhh, green Jets fan but I get what you're saying, overall.
